if your looking for an alarm just for the remote start feature, go with either the clifford or viper same difference. people that buy cliffords are getting better security. they are made by the same company and as for range, either brands with sst technology for the remotes will give you amazing range. and as for the mile range thats a bunch of crap. maybe in north dakota in a big field but not in south florida or any metropolitian area, sst technology is good i have a newer viper with sst and never had a problem with it.
