I am going to be installing a pioneer AVIC-N1 this weekend. Does anyone know where the best place to connect the speed signal input to? I have a manual transmission. I was going to hook it right to the speed sensor on the transmission, but I am sure there is an easier way. Has anyone here put one of these navigation systems in their xB? Any help would be appreciated.

I think I found it ... SPEED SENSOR ... purple/white on the back of fuse box, 18 pin plug. I would do a write up, but I have no idea how to post the pictures here.

How is the install going? Would you rate it easy or hard? Do you have experience? I only ask because I have put several receivers in, but nothing near as complex as the NC1.

The installation for this is not much different from the usual radio install. Get the proper wiring harness adapter and that is most of the work. Then there is a hide-away unit that must be placed somewhere, hook the radio antenna, a 30 pin cable, and the gps antenna to it. Then wire the speed sensor, and parking brake connections. Then mount the gps antenna. I will be disabling the parking brake sensor because I want the DVD to work all the time. Now … if you are going to install any amps … there will obviously be more work, but that is also simple.

Ground it just like you ground the radio.

now is it true that in the alpine units they have to see a pattern before they will play the dvd?? i remember hearing a while back that you cant just ground the ebrake wire, something else has to be done.

With the alpine, you can just purchase a video bypass switch to accomplish the same thing. You can get them on ebay for about $25.

yes, the alpine does need to see a 'pattern'
but you can still get around it....

Which model do you have? You need the switch specific to the unit in some cases.

dont have any unit, just poking around for my own knowledge
