Hi All,

I upgraded to an iPhone 3G and had the same problem most do, the 3G won't charge but will play music through the factory iPod stereo connection. I checked online to see what options if any were available and found the Scosche PassPORT. This is an adapter that connects between the factory iPod plug and your iPhone 3G/4th gen Nano/2nd gen iTouch. It adjusts the pins so that the factory radio plug can charge the iPod and play music through the stereo like older iPods! It is available at the Apple Store or online on the Scion Optomize site. I bought the plug for $25 and have had no issues with it all, either for charging or for playing music on my radio. Hopefully this helps others that were in the same situation as me looking for a solution for their new iPod/iPhone

it was so dumb for apple to remove those 2 pins in the new ipods & iphones.. over half of the car adapters out there and home docks use the firewire pins.. i guess they just wanted to make MORE money lol

Yeah I agree, my old iPhone charged fine then I upgraded my phone and forgot about the pin issue. It was a dumb idea by apple especially since the 3G uses more battery power then my old one. But I still think Apple has some of the best products :)

yup yup.
just got my scosche passport in the mail.

works perfectly.
you still get opt'd to turn airplane mode on when used with the iphone because it is in the operating systems nature to recommend this mode for multimedia.

but finally...my iphone 3g charges AND plays through the same cable!

A fantastic find! I was worried I'd never be able to charge the phone in the car after I got the 3G.

I understand its an old thread, but I want to confirm that you can still change tracks with the stock buttons on the steering wheel.
PassPORT looks like a great inexpensive product.

Yes, all steering wheel buttons and functions work fine. I've had the adapter for almost a year now and still no problems :icon_dj:

lol @ the smily.
Thanks man, I may pick one up. I recently found out even Pandora or anyting with sound on the iPhone will feed to the speakers with the iPod cable that Scion gives us.

I just picked up a PassPORT at Target for $30 and I love it.
Works great with Pandora, Steering Wheel controls and everything else. Sometimes I have to connect it twice to work though.
Thanks for the Thread.

i scratched my head at this thread. i used the usb cable that came with my ipod, and it works flawlessly. charges and plays both my ipod and iphone 3g.

08 and 09 scion XBs come with a proprietary ipod plug with this 6" cable for ipod. Problem is it doesnt charge the iphone 3g/3gs and ipod touch 2g and 3g... so the passPORT is crucial in order to rememdy this problem.

Yeah... I had to buy an adapter to charge/play my iPhone 3Gs. Is there any way to swap the iPod connector for a USB connector?
