i have a 2006 tc w? 70k on it. i was unhookin my battery and my wrench fell outta my hand and hit my injen cai while it was still connected to the positive port on the battery. i saw a small spark and i didnt pay it any attention. afta i put my car back together from installin hids i connected the battery and went to start the car. it would turn over at first and finally i figured out the mass air flow sensor went bad! check engine code p0103.

i found one in Orlando from a salvage dealer from an 06tc with 40k on it. i came home and installed it and the car fired right up. but afta it started it wasnt running the same as it usually does. it was idleing real low and my air/fuel gauge was leaning out like crazy. when i would rev it up it would sound find but when it came back to idle it sounded like it wanted to die again. there was also some smoke coming out of the exhaust that was sort of white. it didnt smell like oil. i dont really know why its doing that.

I thought maybe when the m.a.f. sensor went bad and i was trying to start it my plugs went bad. i havent replaced them yet but i porb will next to see if that would help. My last resort is going to be to take it to toyota and have them fix it.

disconnect the battery and then reconnect and start it back up and let it idle for 5 minutes not giving it gas and see if it resets.

wait you put an MAF sensor from an 06 onto an 07? thats your problem right there. If the MAF sensor was the original problem you need to get an MAF meant for 07+

the 05-06 sensors are different than the 07+ ones

^^ yup he's right!! the 06 maf is DIFFERENT than the 07+ model.. get the 07+ maf!

yea just disconnect the battery for five or ten minutes. Then reconnect it and let the car idle for 10 minutes. Also I am not sure what ur AF's were before or what AF gauge u have but a CAI will lean out the numbers a little but it shouldn't be too drastic...

umm when i start it now, it leans out the whole time basically n is only around 450 to 550 rpms. she sounds like she wants to die, and if i rev it up its ok but when it drops down again it sounds like it wants to stall out again. idk if i should change my spark plugs or what? i have the auto mmeter af gauge short band

you should rock a wideband.. the narrowbands are pretty much useless..

but since your rpms are also different that isnt really the issue. If you haven't disconnected the battery then do that and let it idle. If you have done that then check and make sure the intake is all installed correctly. Also I know it would be a pain in the ___ but if you want to check if your MAF sensor is good then u can install the stock intake and see what happens. If it idles fine then you know something is wrong with your install...

A CAI is not what the factory car is tuned for but it should compensate for the minor change. I would disconnect the battery, then connect it and let it idle, and then drive it around town and let everything recalibrate..

okay yeah i missed that it was both 06 parts as well. one thing, have you cleaned the maf sensor? CRC sells maf sensor cleaner, it's a spray. try cleaning it, letting it dry, then installing and seeing if that helps.

yeah get a new maf, same thing happened to me. idle would drop down to like 400, jump up, go back down, making the car shake. I moved to the rear of the car, there was black cr@p coming out of my stock exhaust, and it smells like a hot rod. I got a maf cleaner, sprayed the ish out of the maf, but did very little. Got my friend to hook me up with a new 06 maf, and after about 10 min of idling with the new maf in, it ran fine.
ps. you should be getting a CEL too, throwing a p0103 code. that'll go away with a new maf.

just buy a new maf they are like 60 bucks for a reman.. i did the same thing and it was the maf... i disconnected the battery for like 10 mins and connected it and let it sit at idle for about 5 mins and everything was fine
