Default Anyone running the Camry transmission?

hey guys im gonna be Turboing my car in about 2 months and i was thinking about switching out the transmission for a Camry unit while im replacing my clutch and flywheel.
the way im figuring is that with all the new found power from the Turbo, the close ratio gears in the tC would actually be counter productive for racing.

i think with a longer geared out transmission that a Turbo tC would actually be faster in the long run, what do you guys think?

i think w/ that money your better off with a limited slip diff, w/ a good engine manaement system in which you can increase your REV's & delte your speed limiter and there ya go.

a good condition camry tranny would only cost about $200-300 thats alot cheaper and alot less work then what your proposing.. though increasing the rev limiter would also help too i would imagine as long as your making power at those rpm's. the stock valve train i doubt can handle more then 7k so you might need to upgrade some components there.

but i was thinking this is a good idea after reading about the current wrx and sti.
the wrx is faster then the sti in the 1/4 mile and 0-60 because it only needs 2 shifts to reach 60 and the sti needs 3 because of the close ratio gearing of the 6sp. this seems to be the same situation with the tC's tranny.

but yeah a

but does it directly bolt up without modification or mounts? if not they you might be spending more right there.. Im interested to see this done though.. but stock tc tranny was proven to hold like 170ish mph, isnt that speed not good enough?

i would imagin its a direct bolt up as the only difference is the gears inside the housing and yup its true the wrx and sti now pull very similar 1/4 miles times even though the wrx is has much less power

another benefit would be better gas mileage too.

also does anyone have any info on if there are any physical differences between the 2 transmissions? as far as i know they use the same housing but i could be wrong.

thanks

IIRC, there a thread on this already. I'm considering doing the same thing, my 3rd gear syncros went out and its gonna be replaced under warranty. The thread is over on the drivetrain & power section, i think its stagnant now, so i dont know whats going on with that....

+1000000000000. Waste of time to trying to put a Camry tranny in there only to make the car go slower and get your **** handed to you buy a guy with stock tC gears with increased rpm + no speed limiter.

Better off sending out your tranny to be built.
