Default Redoing audio set-up, looking for simple yet good sounding..

Ok, so long story short, the next thing I have planned is to redo the stereo system in the car... namely because one of my stock speakers is blown.

I'm handy with working on the car (so I'll be DIY) and I'm fairly knowledgeable with electronics... however my actual car audio knowledge is lacking... but that's why I have you guys!

I've already decided on the HU, the AVIC-F90BT... have had my eyes on it (and the D3 before it) for a LONG time, so that's settled.

Anyway, I'm looking to replace the front speakers (heard the rears aren't important), the factory amp (under the driver's seat), and the bazooka sub (the one NOT in the floor). Nothing to extreme, I'm not really trying to turn heads, just a set-up that will sound pleasing to me and my passengers and maybe if I open the hatch to those nearby. I'm willing to spend enough for good quality equipment but let's not break the bank shall we? Oh, I'll be running the sub in a box tucked in to that corner where the bazooka is, namely to cover the holes where the bazooka is but also to be visible. Willing to run one on the opposite side for looks and sound. Any tips on where to mount the amps would be good, too.

I guess what I'm wanting to know is... speaker brand? Speaker type? Sub brand? Sub size? 1 or 2 subs in the rear? Amp size? Amp brand? Etc. etc. etc., all that jazz.

Thanks a ton guys!

I listen to mostly rock (of the Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Metallica, Guns'n'Roses variety) and the occasional comedy/sports talk radio. Brands I like, or at least heard good things about, have been Pioneer (obviously), Elemental Designs, Kenwood, and Alpine... I'd probably like to get either Pioneer or eD just from what I've read here on SL. And probably a mix of both... I'm not trying to win and sound competitions but I'd like it to sound good inside the car for me and my passengers and, if the mood strikes, have it sound good if I open the doors and hatch for those of us standing nearby (not in the next county ).

Thanks!

I won't talk about speakers because i currently only have one of ED's e9.65i's (bad crossover- had to send back) so i can't give an accurate review. But I will say, that you should get component speakers, which should sound much better than coaxial speakers. Tons of people love the e9.65i's but I had a bad crossover, so i'll wait until it's resolved to give a review. I almost bought the the Image Dynamics components (http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=6201) if that means anything.

as for the rest of your questions. did they really put the bazooka amp under the driver seat? i thought it was within the enclosure in the back.

if your wanting to replace the subwoofer, Bassform make enclosures that fit that location. (http://www.lightav.com/car/boxes/bas...sciontcxb.html)

Another location is just to the right of the spair tire. That foam insert pulls out and ED's stealthbox drops right in.

For the amp, if you decide to go with the bassform, see if the amp will fit in that foam insert (mine required .25" trimming). It's a great spot for the amp. If you go with the ED box, you should mount the amp litterally within the spair tire....using a piece of MDF to mount it to.

I've got an ED 13Ov.2 in a ported box, and I love it, but it's probobally too loud for your likings. Their 11Kv.2 may be a good choice. I've also heard great things about Image Dynamics's subs (http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...ID=36&sort=low).[/url]

So what do people think about those 11Kv.2 subs? Would two of those (in those two Bassforms boxes) sound good? If I was going to run two of them what amp should I get? Nine.1? Nine.2? Nine.2x? And we still need to talk speakers.

But really, thanks a lot, this is still a learning experience, this side of car modifying. I've picked out the HU (AVIC-F90BT) and I love those Bassforms boxes (2 for $235), so I need 2 subs, 2 front speakers (I assume we're still not caring about the rear speakers), amp(s), sound deadening (looking at the roll-on eDead from eD)... capacitor? Help me out!

yes they will sound good in the boxes, they are basically the same subs as my Image Dynamics,I have the Bassforms boxes. One thing to know about the bassforms boxes is you have to build a false floor to set them at the correct height so they fit properly, you cannot tell from their pictures of them.

I listen to the same type of music and they are clear and punchy, and when my wife puts in some 50Cent it hits very hard,no distortion, and about 550w to the pair.

Never done much wood-working before (though I can find a friend to do so)... I'm sure making a false floor isn't too hard, right?

Could really use some more input guys... got the headunit picked out (F90BT), the subs (eDesign 11Kv.2), the sub box (Bassforms tC boxes), the front speaker baffles (from eDesign), and my sound deadening material (eDead roll-on material from eDesign). Was recommended to get component speakers. If I stick with eDesign, which of their 2 component speakers should I choose? Any other tips/tricks/recommendations?

Thanks guys!

Are you open to other companies or is this another all ED install on here? How much are you looking to spend on the speakers? How much power?

Nothing wrong with your choices thus far, but when it comes to a component system I suggest you hit the stores and listen to several sets within your budget to determine what you like best. Ideally you'd go to car audio shops, as many of them have demo cars so you can listen to components actually installed, because they can sound VERY different when mounted on a "sound board" in a demo room. Components are the most important aspect of your system and will make the biggest difference in overall quality (compared to HU, amps & subs), so don't make a hasty decision.

Nope, not only sold on eD at all. They've just been highly recommended on here. Open to any and all companies.

Willing to pay but not wanting to break the bank. Not shooting for the BEST AUDIO POSSIBLE, just something that will sound good to me and my passengers.

Ok, I have decided on one more stipulation... I really, REALLY would prefer not to have to make a false floor... which I know now rules out the Bassforms box... does it rule out the eD stealth box, too?

the ed box fits right into the side, but i heard it sometimes taps the bottom of the floor. dunno how bad it is, but i think most people raised it very slightly to avoid that.
i also was thinking of getting the ed box, but i opted not to because of that, and that it doesnt hit lows as hard as i would like. i went with a 13Ov.2 powered by a NiNe.1, and currently saving up money to for my frontstage...so this is also a cleverly hidden tag

Does anyone know if you can fit 4" speakers in the dash where the stock tweeters are?

^ Check your forum section!

The tC doesn't have in-dash tweeters.

I know I am in the tC section, I don't have an xB anymore, but I am getting a tC in about a month and I am doing research for it now.

The tc doesn't have speakers in the dash? Correct me if I am wrong but it does have a 7 speaker system including the sub?

Nope, not in the dash, stock tC tweeters are in the doors.

Front doors = woofs & tweets (4)
Rear sides = woofs only (2)
hatch = "subwoofer" (1)

So ya, technically that's 7 "speakers".
