Default Getting a tC - what options to get from a Dealer, what not ?

I will be getting a tC (switching from a 2000 Impreza RS (Turbo)), and would like to know what "accessories" I should get form a dealer, and what I should get after market. Also please give some reasons.

* Example: Get the upgraded stereo, it is worth it's price, and the setup looks great. Or Do not get the upgraded steres - it's over priced and does sound all that good. *

Please be resonable, I am not planing to modify a car too much. Had enough bad expirience doing so.

Thank you

get whatever you don't think you are going to regret later. If you are making payments on the car an extra $500 option isn't going to effect your payments a great deal, one or two dollars a month usually.

I purchased:

Flint Mica 5sp

Door Sills
Rear bumper applique
mudgaurds
subwoofer
trd exhaust
fog lights

I didn't want the door sills, exhaust or fog lights till I saw them in person, and I just liked how they looked so I splurged for them. I probably don't need the subwoofer, but I just want to have the encloser for later, I will probably put an aftermarket driver/amp in it at a later date, but I like where it mounts. I wanted the bumper applique cause I am clumsy loading stuff and don't want to scratch the bumper. I read on here that the mudgaurds really cut down on debris on the side of the car, and I drive on gravel more than the average person.

My dealer informed me that the auto dimming mirror is pretty much useless, if that helps.

Dear future,

Looking around is a good idea. You can save on those mods and accessories from Scion on our site. Please take a look and sign up for our free gift certificate drawings while you're there. Congrats on the new car.

Unless you're doing a 20 a year car loan, $500 will reflect more than just a 1-2 dollars a month. Not including interest, a 60 month loan would mean you will be paying about 9 dollars more a month,. Including interest, I'd say about 11-13 dollars a month. Still, not a lot of difference, but more than just a few dollars. I think it's always to buy what you can afford right now (Didn't say I practice what i preach ), I'd recommend that you put a large a down payment as possible, and wait a few months (or weeks if you got a nice job... or minutes if you're cybergypsy apparently) - and buy the parts at half the cost and don't finance them. You'll be much happier. It's nice to upgrade after ownring too, because it revitalizes that "new gadget" feel

depends, for me none of the options were worth it. things I might've paid extra for (sunroof, 17" alloys, 160hp engine, etc) were all included standard. if I want anything in the future (springs/shocks/sway bar) I'll just lay down the cash and buy online. the dealer options are overpriced (IMHO), plus they don't include installation, *plus* if you finance them you'll be paying interest on them so you'll be paying even MORE for your options... it really is all up to you and whether you want to try to install any of it yourself or find someone in your area who would do it.

Some stuff is too mch pain in the **** to install yourself/

I know I'll get the new sway bar right away, and install it myself, but something are better left for a dealer to mount (stereo would be a good example, or the ground effects)
Or would it?

KEN- wow... that's a lot of stuff. (drulling already)

Thanx

1. Lip kit
2. Fog lights
3. TRD springs

Get your own rims, tint, aftermarket performance parts and sound system and you're done!

Of course always try and stay in budget, but the point I was trying to make is an extra option or so isnt going to raise the payment a great deal. I know I went overboard on my options, but the only "extra" options I ended up getting that I normally wouldnt have are the exhaust and fog lights. I justified the exhuast since I went from a model that had airbags to one that didnt so I was saving a bit of money there, and with the extra money from the airbags it helps with the foglights a bit.

I guess too with my "few dollars" statement I am assuming you have good credit. It is always a good idea to stay in budget, and don't let "hopupitis" set in. All the accessories I got, i mean, most of the accessories (thats better) were budgeted for.

Oh, and the TRD exhaust offers little to no performance gain from what everyone says. I had a chance to hear it on a guy's car who brought it in for service while I was at the dealer and liked the sound of it, and it looks really nice. Has a nice deep sound, but not obnoxious.

don't get the exhaust what ever you do. if you only want it for sound just buy a borla muffler and saver yourself a couple hundred dollars. i got the best % interest rate they offer (4.something%) and it was still about 20 dollars a month extra for every 1000 dollars. personally i got the floormats and LED light kit mostly because i'm too lazy to run all the wires and it comes with a nice switch. as far as the "subwoofer" i'm pretty sure it's just a bazooka tube and not worth it IMHO. good luck and i hope this helps

1 - you mean the grounds effects? (Yes, I wouldn't want to bother with the paint, etc)

2. - Fig lights: wouldn;t it be much cheaper to get some aftermarket once?

3. Springs: Yes - how much does dealership charges for the install?

you dont even wanna know how much the dealer charges... get someone else to do it i got it done for 100... well worth it... the only thing i regret getting/but not really is the rear bumper applique. it was on it when i got the car so i didn't have much choice.. its protected my bumper pretty well but a little line of dirt forms around it .... if i were you id get the lip spoiler cuz IMHO its the best looking and most tasteful "spoiler" available... then after u get the car go on mcgeorge and buy the sills, mud guards, and floormats (dealer charges more)...i could go on and on but ill just shush good luck!

i only have the floor mats and disc changer..floor mats may seem expensive to some but they're both winter and summer so it's basically a two for one deal..and the clips keep the drivers mat locked in place...didn't order it with the changer but surprise surprise it came to the dealer with one..was going to have them swap it out but i'm glad i didn't..real easy to load up w/discs and not touch it again for weeks at a time.

The Pedestal spoiler is a must. :D :D Much better looking than the lip spoiler. Makes the car just look cool and doesn't restrict vision. Mud Guards and floor mats, plus locking wheel lugs and the rear bumper applique. Getting seat covers and hopefully a rock guard (Bra or something else) to protect the paint.
