Okay, I've looked through a lot of posts, about fog lights and head lights for both first and second gen.

After I hooked everything up, I'm pretty sure I fried my Dimmer relay, if thats possible.

Anyways, what I am looking to do is of course hook them up to come on with parking lights, and a switch.

so can someone who knows wtf they're doing give me a break down from start to finish, I'm sure a lot of people could make use of it.

I have now this

LEDs (Black) > OEM Fog Wiring Harness (white/stripe)
LEDs (Red) > OEM Fog Wiring Harness (Green)

Dimmer Wiring Harness (outside green(should be headlights)) > Switch (Load)
Dimmer Wiring Harness (solid white (should be power)) > Switch (Supply)
Dimmer Wiring Harness (white striped (should be ground)) > Switch (Earth)

I think the ground wasn't connected properly when I tried to flip it the first time

What do I need to do/change to fix this, obviously replace the relay and will it work? or do I have to get 2 new relays or what? Is this even the correct place to splice for the OEM fog harness' ?

I have new CCFL headlights on the way too, I'd like to wire the CCFL tubes into the parking lights as well, can you wiring animals please dive in here! Greatly appreciated

wtf...doesn't say how to connect the switch just says "install" it haha

but since it shows the dimmer connector I'm sure I'm in the right place, so I'm thinking I just popped the relay, cause it wasn't grounded when my friend turned it on

so, let me go try and get a new one real quick

and someone chime in if you know how to get them to run off of the parking lights please!

Took the relay out and took the housing off, and it looks / smells perfect so I'm thinking its something else...

sounds like you did what i did. you burnt out the headlight switch and inturn that makes the fogs not work, sounds stupid but thats most likely it. it took scion 4 days to figure my car out, they gave me a rental car and everything, it sucked. i missed my car. ive been looking around to find out how to get them to come on with only parking lights, but i dont wanna f with my car anymore in fear of messing more poop up. i found a link on how to do it on the tc. but its not the same for our car i dont think.

my headlight switch works, its my dimmer switch but Im not sure if its relay, the dimmer switch itself, the wiring, or fuses somewhere

I don't want to take it in for diagnosis cause I'm sure it'll end up being fuses but looks like I'll have to

meantime I'll hook my LED fogs up to the reflector lights connectors and see if that works.

my headlights still worked also, but the fogs didnt work, does your dimmer dim the dash ? if your fogs dont work and you cant dim the dash then you fried your reostat, its a weird electronic piece that i had to get changed out and your better bringing it in to the dealership.

yup, reohstat burned out....bring her to the dealer....just tell them you have no idea what happened, it just stopped working, thats what i did....and i actually burnt out my computer also..dont ask, long story. but i got a new one warranteed.

Hey, did you ever get this problem fixed? I'm having the same problem after I tried testing my dimmer switch. There's something wrong with the switch that comes with the ebay knock-off fogs. When I dimmed the dash lights all the way down, the fogs came on and since then my HVAC, etc. lights don't work. When the fogs are on, the dimmer works. When the fogs are off, it doesn't. No blown fuses worries me a lot. :nails: Something is FUBARed big time. I hope it's just the dimmer rheostat.

I should have bought the oem fogs instead... :doh:


EDIT: Nevermind, fixed it. Blown 7.5A fuse at location #17 in the #2 fuse panel located sadistically under the steering wheel so that you have to lay with your back straddling the door sill to reach it.

I replaced the ebay switch with a $5 LED rocker switch mounted in the switch blank but it's still not working right. It works fine as long as you don't turn the dimmer all the way down. If you do, the fogs come on. Not sure how else to wire it as I'm using the only oem fog wire (green) that has +12V with the HL's on. It's probably best to use the 4-wire oem fog switch but $60 for a $5 switch is way too much. I'll just find another +12V accessory wire and use that to feed the fog relay. That way I can run the fogs whenever I want to.

Generally speaking, automotive uses a switched ground, unlike a house that uses a switched hot or positive voltage. I will eventually run some glow lighting and will use a rocker switch, relay and wire (same stuff needed for fog lights).

My suggestion... Run battery + to one side of the coil in a relay, fuse the other side to a switch to ground. On the contact leads, do the same thing..... Run battery + to the lights and one side of the contact, the other side goes through a fuse to ground.

Through the switch and pull in the relay coil. Result? Coil pulls in and makes contacts, which completes the power path for the lights (or whatever you hook up). Lights are on till you through the switch.

Your other choice is to use a "Key On" 12 volt source for the battery + side of the coil. This way, everything turns off when you turn off the key. That way you don't drain your battery if you forget..... GOOD LUCK and be sure to get a relay rated for whatever the amp draw will be plus at least 20%. Have a 10 amp load, get a 15 amp rated relay...etc.
