Default Motor oil in tranny after new Clutch install?????

Hey so I just had my new clutch and fidanza 9.5 lb flywheel put in the other day. I love it and it feels great...anyway, I took the car to a local transmission shop to have the work done. The guy only charged me $510 for the labor so I was pretty happy about that. When I came to pick the car up yesterday, he mentioned to me that I guess he topped off the tranny with MOTOR OIL...I had just previously changed the oil over to redline mt90 about 2 or so months ago, so the fluid was still pretty fresh. What I want to know is was it okay for this guy to put motor oil in my trans or was that very very very bad like I'm thinking it was. The fluid is all out of there now and I put some new mt90 back in, but is it possible that the motor oil he put in there could have done any damage?

i mean i don't think so as long as you didn't drive it too far. to be on the safe side, i would flush the tranny one more time just to get the residual motor oil out.

well unfortunately I had to drive it about 5-600 miles after that because of my job, and I had to order the redline mt90 from summit. Everything feels fine, but do you have any idea as to why he would do some ish like that????

now you know why he only charged $510 dollars...

maybe he misspoke and meant to say gear oil? if he was able to do all this work, i would think he is smart enough to know the differences in oil.

but the transmission takes 75w90, compared with whatever small amount of oil he put in possible motor oil, such a small amount i couldn't really see damaging it. ask him how much he put in when he topped it off. the transmission holds 2.5 quarts, so if he put in just a little, it really shouldn't of been very catastrophic.

how much harm can it do? it is just alittle motor oil, it isn't like mixing up diesel and gasoline at the pump. oil is oil, and all that really matters is the viscosity.

No he specifically said motor oil. Because when I asked him what weight oil he put in the trans he just said, "oh..just motor oil" I still didnt like the idea of motor oil being mixed with the tranny oil I had in there. And it had to have been a small amount because like I said the oil had just been changed, he said he didn't drain the trans, and I dont have any leaks on the car what so ever

No, it won't hurt anything, shouldn't be a problem at all, given what you described. If it was just topped off with 30w or whatever and you drove 600mi before changing it out, there was no harm done and you have nothing to worry about.
