So for those that say it can't be done it can. 1.125 cu foot with woofer displacement. Sounds killer too, Wife likes it.
Munch 01-21-2005, 12:46 AM Very Sweet and very stealth
about 18 hours to fab that box. The box in my s10... 5 minute toss together thing, Funny how the wifes car is always nicer, prolly something to do with not constantly tearing it apart for upgrades =)
Ashe_WCM 01-21-2005, 01:03 AM Damn, now I want one.
Does the Cover sit flush when its on?
perfectly flush with the back. I wanted it to look exactly like the factory plastic piece that covers the spare. Not exactly the easiest thing to get out but I've got the spare which means alot between Casa Grande and El Centro on the way to and from San Diego.
dgHotLava 01-21-2005, 01:13 AM mad respect for the stealth install...
bravo....
matt_a 01-21-2005, 01:13 AM Now THAT is sweet! Great job. I can't believe you were able to do that AND leave the spare tire in the car. Is that sub hooked to the stock system or have you done other mods to the audio?
*edit..duh, never mind. I looked at the pics again and I can see it's not the stock head unit.
tore out the factory unit, using it for a door stop currently =0)
Rockford Fosgate Mp3 player in the dash, Blaupunkt 4 x 100 Class t mini amp (the things under the seat, it's like the size of a vhs tape) Boston Pro 6.5 comp set in the front doors, aside from the deck it all looks stock, doesn't sound it though.
Richard 01-21-2005, 12:55 PM Nice!
Fujiz_xb 01-21-2005, 01:31 PM mad props...ingenious
fugeelama 01-21-2005, 03:51 PM So if you were to go into business for yourself and make/sell these boxes (boy would that take up a lot of your time), how much would you sell them for? Just wondering what kind of price range I'd be looking at if I had someone build one for me locally...

very nice question carlos, yes please tell us how much you would charge as this looks like a nice set up that I will be interested in................
eugovector 01-21-2005, 04:09 PM Amazing, simply amazing and I want one. I'm saving these pics.
I used to run a Audio shop, I was doing car auido and security for about a dozen years. Currently my best friend can make copies of that box for about $225 I think. Depending on how much the shop wants to charge. There is a lot of bondo in that box to take care of the curves (not like the curves are all bondo but there is slotted wood to make the curves and a mix of bondo and fiber glass to make it air tight). Sadly with the amount of time it took to build that one it wasn't very cost effective (time wise) though the orginal design of the box was for a pair of 8's to go where the tool tray was and it to be a ported enclosure with the port on the other side. The 8's I had on order never showed and I was doing this for my wifes birthday. So at the last minute we added the 'bowl' in the middle and relocated the woofer to the middle ditching the 8's for a 12. A p2 10 would pound in that box ported. The specs turned out dead on for the P1 12. I perfer ported enclosures but due to space constraints the box would have had to be 3 inches taller to be ported. Currently when i play with the system I can get the rear view mirror to spin circles and flex the windshield about 1/4 inch possibly more. I also managed to roast one 12 due to overdriving the crap out of it. I believe most shops would end up charging about $150 to $200 for that crazy of a box and may or may not be very good quality. If you were in the tucson area I'm sure I could hook you up with one of your own, sadly it's not cheap and would cost a bundle to ship as the box and cover weigh about 60 lbs without the woofer. Now if I did a fiberglass mold of this and could mass produce the bottom of the box that would be something, plus could get a bit more air.
PandaIst 01-21-2005, 08:40 PM Very nice enclosure.
Ashe_WCM 01-21-2005, 09:28 PM Every time i see that I smile. I think I am going to get some of that insulation foam, fill up the spare tire well, then use it as a frame to Fiberglass a box with.
thats nice how you made it around the spare tire man very well done
JDMxB 01-21-2005, 09:50 PM Awesome job!

djct_watt 01-31-2005, 10:16 AM I'm an idiot when it comes to fiberglass. . . I did a basic infinite baffle for my design. . . it's nothing compared to what you guys did!
hotbox05 01-31-2005, 11:18 AM well step up to tha plate sid.
djct_watt 02-02-2005, 03:12 AM no money boss!
cme42ns 02-07-2005, 04:47 PM Sweet!....I like how you kept the spare.
Do you mind if I post these pics on the Rockford Fosgate website?
Scion05BOPxB 02-09-2005, 02:32 AM VERY nice work there guys. I'm working on something similiar for my xB once I get it. I tore apart the one in the showroom at the dealer and it looks like pulling out the foam compartments in the back should yield enough space for a woofer. Now I just have to dust off my box building skills from several years ago and get to work.
tlspatt 02-11-2005, 04:56 AM i'm in San Diego and not too far away... if you wanna put one in mine, feel free to do so. i'd def be up for a road trip, and i would happily bring up my check book. if u can put something like that in there and save the LITTLE trunk space i do have, i'd be up for the drive... PM me if u want some business...
I have submitted the pictures to them but haven't seen it yet.
TLspatt, I'm going to be in Gordons Well Prez day weekend (Sand Dunes over east of El Centro) We might be able to work a deal out on one of these. Though the specific woofer, depth and volume required can play a big factor in sound. I've got a P2 10 in my truck in about .65 cu foot of space and it pounds. I'm considering replacing her p1 12 with a P2 10 (same air space better sound more power too) due to the surround on the 12 seperating twice now. The first time I think was a manufacturing defect this time I think it was over driving the woofer. I abuse the crap out of my systems. According to my wife she never turns it up as loud as me, but for some reason I've replaced 4 woofers for her in 4 years.
noservice2001 09-20-2007, 01:52 PM +2 eProps for you... dang that's insanely stealth.... w/ the spare?!?! dang....
Scion05BOPxB 09-22-2007, 02:49 AM Holy blast from the past. interesting to read my post though and see how the plans changed in 2 years. haha
spike443 09-29-2007, 03:52 PM You are the MAN!
That box is the first thing I thought of when i first saw the spare, but you made it happen! I have no 'glass skills (yet), even though I'm a pretty good carpenter. Maybe I can make it happen with a lot of accurate angle cuts and trig. Prolly lose some air space, but I'm going for an 8" or 10" anyway (wife's car)!
Again, great work!
respect to ya ! very nice mod. i like zat ...
Philthy 11-26-2007, 07:56 PM Fantastic job. These cars are so small, and it's amazing to see that it's possible to do something like that.
