View Full Version : nitrous express on a tc
aarontrini85 01-24-2005, 11:39 PM im thinking about getting a nitrous express kit for my tc http://www.nitrousexpress.com/Pages/CustomStage1.htm it would cost me about $725 installed
i was woundering if any one else is running one they seem to be one of the safest systems to run since they will only work at WOT plus there all wet kits so they will give better gains. Im only looking to run about a 50 shot i think tc tunerz is running like a 125 or some thing like that but i want to know if any one is daily driving a car with one of these kits if so how does it run with the nitrous and has it effected the normal driving of the car when the kit is off? also if you do have one of these kits are did you upgrade the exhasut system or buy a new intake for the nitrous to be injected in to like the k&n or weapon r. my goal with this car is to be able to keep up with my friends grand prix gtp so i need all the input i can get to know if this is worth it.
please dont say any thing about this being a dumb idea becouse of nitrous being unsafe or any thing like that
mikochu 01-24-2005, 11:44 PM Install it yourself... It's not hard at all. If you can't install it, I don't see how you could deal with it if it fubars your car.
kuzikan 01-25-2005, 12:03 AM go with zex it is much easier to maintain I have installed quite a few of them from hondas to mercedes and they work great and work off the throttle position wire.....no stupid micro switches to try to mount....
aarontrini85 01-25-2005, 12:13 AM i guees i could do the install but with the discount i get at the shop its almost going to cost the price of the kit for the kit and the install but if you know some where cheap that i can get it please post a link ive seen the install and it does look realy easy
aarontrini85 01-25-2005, 02:04 AM zex talks about changing the spark plugs on the car to these
http://www.powerandperformancenews.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=ZX&Category_Code=HSP
is this realy help full or is it sort of a waste of money?
blackheart 01-25-2005, 05:03 AM the plugs only make a difference if you have a turbo or supercharger pushing over 8 psi
TeamMightyMiniz 01-25-2005, 05:46 AM I'd prefer a venom kit.
endlessracingz 01-25-2005, 12:34 PM If your goal is too keep up with your friends GTP, I wouldn't go the nitrous route, especially when there are so many other things to do. It seems like you just want a quick boost for the cheapest amount of money but I have a friend who had done this and ended up refilling his bottle almost once a week. I would save up and get the TRD s/c, scion speed turbo stage 1, or even greddy's when it comes out. You'll be happier in the long run.
aarontrini85 01-25-2005, 03:03 PM i dont want to change how fuel efficent my car is and i sure as hell no im not going to be using the bottle on the street i think street racing is realy unsafe the bottle will only be for track use
PunkInDrublic 01-25-2005, 03:06 PM Just get I/H/E, it'll cost a tad bit more than your bottle, but it'll be a mod that is always on, and will have very little effect on fuel efficiency.
aarontrini85 01-25-2005, 04:00 PM ^ i plan on getting I/H/E along with this i want a carb legal header and the trd exhaust but ill probly get the k&n intake so i can keep the stock itake just in case any thing happens to the car and it needs warrenty work :lalala:
Seven53 01-25-2005, 11:51 PM As for the spark plugs, you could got one heat range colder if your going to the track just for your runs on the bottle, you can also trim the groundstraps down to reduce the chance of pre-ignition leading to detonation.
Also check to make sure your fuel pump id upto the task, does anyone know how many lph our pumps flow?
aarontrini85 01-26-2005, 12:30 AM what do you mean by trim the groundstrap? the one coming of the battery?
toyota_scion_tc 01-26-2005, 10:11 AM Doesn't nitress express use two or three safety switches? An oil pressure switch and fuel pressure switch. I know they warrenty their solenoids. I would use them
TurboCustomz 01-26-2005, 04:25 PM The tC with the 125 shot wasn't the tCtunerz car, it was ours. It was a nitrous express kit which is pretty much all we use. They make a quality product.
Nitrous is an easy way to make power. I would venture to say that a lot if not most people are scared of it because they hear stories about other peoples cars blowing up. The thing is, if you educate yourself, and use it properly. Nitrous can be completely safe.
Every company that puts out a kit makes a guide that I suggest everyone read that covers a lot of the basics. There are a plethera of shops out there that could answer any other questions that one might have. Or you could always call the manufacturer direct.

aarontrini85 01-26-2005, 04:42 PM ^ so do you think stock a tc could handel a 75 shot?
^ so do you think stock a tc could handel a 75 shot?
IMO no problem..no more than 100.
I personally would run a 75
aarontrini85 01-27-2005, 09:26 PM ill probly have this in april or maybe even late march but can any one recomend a place to get a kit cheap at i have seen them on ebay but im not sure if i want get one off of there becouse if there is any issue with it i probly wont get any help form the seller
Seven53 01-27-2005, 10:40 PM The ground strap is the L-Shapes piece over the electrode, this can heat up through the combustion process. By shortening the strap, you can reduce a pre-ingnition propagating hot-spot.

I thought all Nitrous kits required heavy engine work to use. Does it depend what size shot you're running?
There's a kid who frequents an aftermarket shop around here, who claims he blew his pistons THROUGH HIS HOOD running a larger shot than reccomended in a stock engine. Any truth to that?

Nitrous oxide provides the oxygen that allows an engine to burn more fuel, more burned fuel equals more power
so basicly it is like adding a super charger or turbo to a car but insted of it being there all the time its only on when you activate it. like any thing to much will hurt the car try putting in 20 psi of boost in your stock tc and it wont go to far before it blows but 9psi in a tc should be fine its the same with nitrous oxide to much is bad but there is a such thing as a safe amount
aarontrini85 01-31-2005, 06:16 PM i called zex just to see what they would suggest i get and when i told them i had a 2005 scion tc they had no idea what i was talking about it took him about 15 min then he said "the box thing" at that point i just asked what they use on the camery and he gave me this part # 82021 so im going to look in to that and see what it has but they dont seem to be as noligibel as peaple say they are every one else i have talked to knows what the tc is except for the guys at zex
LimitedE 02-05-2005, 12:11 PM I believe the rule is no more than 20hp per cylinder when shooting on a stock motor.
But you will need a colder plug to prevent detonation. I think the Denso # is IK22
If you ask me the perfect kit for the tC is probably the NX import kit (stage-1).
Part# 20923-10
aarontrini85 02-05-2005, 04:29 PM ok thanks i orderd my intake and a 2.5" exhaust is also going on my car next weekend. then my tax return should be in about 2 weeks from now and ill have this installed
