What is the widest tire that will fit on a 18x7 wheel? 225, 235??
Im looking at a 225 40 with a 40 offset, it should fit like a glove.

I know you can fit the 225 and im pretty sure you can fit the 235 ...

You use wider tires for better handling, I have 225 tires on my wheels, I had 235 on my old V6 Accord ...

I would think a wider tire would be an obvious reason.
1. Increased width equals increased surface area & a wider stance and leads to better handling.
2. Beef up the look of the XB
3. Lower offset and wider tire help fill out the fenders
4. WIDER IS BETTER in the summer, skinny stock steelies for the cold months

I don't know about filling the fenders with fatter tires (why not get wider rims) but I know most of the people here running 215/35/18 since its the best and closest tire you can get to keep the speedo close to factory setting. Sean

Man, I would think a 225/40 would be REALLY close on the fenders, especially in the rear. A 225/35 would fit better.

One of our club members is running 215/40r18s and it has barely a hand thickness between the back of the rear wheel well and the tire.

That should include the phrase "at full droop" after it. Sometimes I forget to finish my sentences! Sorry.

What I'm saying is that you can get away with a HUGE tire when they're sitting in a normal position, but it is at full bump or full droop that you really have to notice if there is going to be rubbing.

wider is better to some degree, a 215 is the narrowest tire made in an 18 or 19in, that is to my dismay, i want a 205, but thats not the topic here. for a 7.5 in wheel i would run a 215 only, maybe a 225 at last resort. my reason is sidewall, the wider the tire is with a narrow wheel the more you are sqeezing the tire on, causing the sidewall to round or bubble past the wheel, instead of the sidewall being straight up and down, as the tire is designed to be, doesnt sound like much but every time you change a little bit it affects tire wear. my old prerunner ran through tires when they were sqeezed on smaller rims. i know this had something to to do with the 12in of travel that was on it f'in with the alignment but anyways the tires lasted longer after being put on a proper width wheel. for the xb i am goping to run a 18 in rims, a 215 on the 8.5 up fornt and a 225 on the 9.5 in the rear. to my dismay i cant superstretch a 205 215 cuz they dont make them....oh well, now just gotta sit back untill the wheels come....damn these custom orders

I agree with Brent. You don't want to go too wide of a tire without having the proper width wheel to go with it. Keep in mind the tire widths compared to the rim width:

205 tire = 8.04" wide
215 tire = 8.46" wide
225 tire = 8.86" wide
235 tire = 9.25" wide

Whichever tire you go with, check the manufacturer's fitment guide. It should list the minimum width and maximum width wheel that the tire can take.

I want a 40 to give me a bit more cushion, so would a 225/35 fit better. BTW whats the stock size 196/60-15 right?

if i go with a Axis Mod7 18x7.5 i can go 215/35 or a 225/35.

18x7 = 225/35/18 biggest, any bigger suchs as 235/30 is way to dangerous, if u dutn believe me, take a hard turn and ill find out.

18x7.5 = you got me im guessin 235/35/18o or 225/40/18

According to the tire brand website(Falken, Toyo, Yoko) a 7.0-8.0 width is perfect for a 215/35-18
a 7.5-8.5 for a 225 width.

man im dumb, i thought it was a 195 not a 185. That throws off my measurments a bit. So it looks like 215/35-18 is closest to stock. But i think a 215/40-18 would be best for me on bumpy NE roads. According to another thread 215 40 will fit fine, im running stock suspension.
