Default TRD CAI and Rain

I've been noticing, since moving back to Mobile (rainiest city in country) that a good bit of water ends up on and around the intake box because of the bumper vent. How does all this play on the longevity of the filter?

I've already made up my mind to just buy a new TRD filter every 20k and clean the MAS (many reasons), so I'd hope the filter would last that long.

I assume the cone filter guys have even more of a problem with this than I do.

cone filters last pretty much forever..just clean it every oil change or so and you will be fine..you can get the cleaning kits at autoparts stores like autozone, kragen, etc..

the rain shouldn't affect anything is what I"m trying to tell you. Just keep an eye on it..if it looks like it's getting damaged then replace it of course. But the rain shouldn't affect it. Those filters are pretty sturdy.

And you don't have to re-oil every 5000 miles..I re-oiled mine after like 20k with no issues..I was just recommending that because you were concerned.

It's not like it's hard to re-oil..while the oil is draining out of your oil pan take out the filter and re-oil it and put it back on.

I wonder if you could find a way to work a water repelent prefilter to fit over the TRD unit?

10-4. I was not real concerned, just wondering what the effects are on the TRD filter with a rainy town. It won't be as bad as the cone, since it is a panel and somewhat shielded.

ohhh lmao I totally read that wrong...I thought you meant you were using a cone filter..so you're just using the TRD filter that goes in the stock airbox right?

In that case - just keep an eye on it and check it every oil change..just pop off the cover and inspect it to see how dirty it is. If it looks really dirty change it (although I believe you can hose them down with water and let it air dry..but research that cause I don't want you doing something stupid on my account haha)

so depending on how dirty it gets 20k might be a lot it might be virtually nothing..just keep an eye on it.

Sorry about my misreading..haha fail on my part.

He mentioned the CAI which would not be the stock air box. they usually relocate to the inner fender area...

Correct, its like a cone style, its just a panel CAI with a little more protection. It does get some water though, witht he bumper vent.

Thats it. The tob, above the "TRD", is all open and thats where the air goes in tot he panel. Its a good design because of excess whater and hydrolocking, but Im sure it still gets damp.

If your concerned with hydrolocking your motor, pickup a bypass valve, AEM makes a good one, i had it on my old honda. They are about 50 bucks depending on where you pick it up. very simple to install
