Default Buying a used tC

im thinking about buying a used tC instead of a brand new one. I found a used white tC 5 spd with scion security for $16k and its got about 5k miles on it. i wanted a silver one, but i like the white too. id be saving thousands from tax, financing, liscence etc... plus it only has 5k miles on it, so its still almost brand new.

ok, so now i just got a few questions...
do you think its worth it buying a used one to save a few grand? i wouldnt be getting the color i originally wanted though.
if i buy this used one will the warrenty still be valid?
and if it is, would i need to take it to where it was originally bought, or any scion dealer?

thanks for reading this and please reply with any opinions or answers you might have.

a new one out the door is about $17,200. as a general rule, for each $1,000 more is about $10 a month on your monthly payment.

think about it though, if its really worth it.

check out the fluids specially oil.. check it ifs dirty.. see if the owner took care of that car. look for smoke if theres any, and noises .you know the guy personally? he/she is a street racer? whats the reason for selling? ask (if you can if you can trust the person) how the car was mainly used, work? travel? freeways or sidestreets?

to save a few bucks i guess its cool but you wanna just check if the owner drove the crap out of it.

sounds kinda fishy.. when for another $1500 you can get a new one with nothing wrong with it (unless you do something to it).. i wouldn't buy a used tC not when they just came out..

actually, with my dads haggling we can get the car for AT LEAST $15,500

a brand new one with the same options, plus tax and all the freakin fees would be about $18,000

i mean its only 5,000 miles. its practically brand new. and it said in the ad that 90% is freeway miles. ill give the seller a call tomarrow to find out more. but i think its worth it to me. especially since im only 17 still, maybe im not ready for a brand new car. this seems like i good deal, but im still thinking about it. thanks everyone.

I would see who owned it and how they drove it. Did they break in the car properly or did they beat the heck out of it the minute they got it? Even all highway miles could be bad if they didn't vary their speed on the highway when breaking their car in.

Not an easy task, I can assure you. Just got mine and am having the devils own time making sure it sees a variety of speeds. The only speed I want to see is 85 and it is amazing how quickly the car gets there and how hard it is to leave that speed. Or is it more the driver then the car????

DUDE check it out REALLY well!!

Dont kill yourself in the long run cause u wanted to save some money!!!

5,000 is little but if the person didn't treat the car decent theres a chance that will hurt u in the long run

trans problem can be a major factor.

like i said have a very good look.. ask WHY??

i agree with Immune.. don't kill yourself for the money, it's not worth the hassle in the long run.. for me personally i wouldn't buy a car that was for sale that soon after it was purchased.. something's not right.. that's my opinion..

BUY IT. Take ADVANTAGE of a car that has already lost money off the new lot. Don't forget, the car is still under warranty!

I'll go against what everyone has said and say go for it, but do 4 things BEFORE you buy:

1) Get that price down to $15,500, if possible. (If it has a lot of mods $16k is a ok deal, althouh many mods don't actaully add to a cars value.)
2) Check the VIN on Carfax.
3) Take it to your mechanic for a brief inspection.
4) Check everythin on the car yourself to see if anything looks weird or bothers you (smoke smell, tear in seat, radio acts funny, etc etc.) Better to find now when you knock down the price than later.

And about the mechanic: don't worry about fluids... with 5,000 miles on the car there's nothing the previous owner could have looked over that would have done damage. Get your mechanic to look at the condition of the brakes... that will tell you how hard the person drove the car. If the brakes are new, then that tells you they have had brake problems and/or they are covering their tracks. Just ask the person straight up if they drive hard.

Let's not forget that some people just like to drive cars... I have friends who change cars every 6 months, but still ask why they are selling.

If you are gonna spend that kinda of money, whats another 1-2 K? I think that is a small price to pay to know that your car is brand spankin new. But if you do decide to go with the used, definitely try to talk it down some more. Just tell the seller, if they dont lower the price, you are gonna pay the small difference for a brand new one. Im sure he will budge.

The odd situation here is:
1- the new tCs is a little bit under priced (because it really should be set at 19k - 20k level with the features and power set up)
2 - the used tCs tend to be a little over priced because there are still so few out there, and they are relatively on demand right now.

So, the saving you will get from the used tC is smaller if you buy a almost new used car from some other brands...

but the thing is when it comes time to sell id be losing more money from the brand new one rather than the used one

kevin - no matter what u will lose money when it comes to resale., dont get off track though.

The question is about buying that used car. Just get it checked plain and simple. People here are just telling u to make sure they car isn't beat up inside before u buy.

If its not then go for it and buy it!

Save $2000 OR get that extra piece-of-mind knowing you were the only one who has driven the vehicle.

Descisions, descisions.

you still have to pay taxes on a used car.

and what are you talking about saving money on financing?

is the used car seller letting you pay monthly with no interest?

if you can afford to pay off the used then why can't you afford to pay off a new?

i do agree with buying a car that's already depreciated to an extent, but with such a minimal difference in price who cares?
