View Full Version : idle problem BigJohnXa 02-04-2011, 10:49 PM I start the car and it idles real high and the shuts off what could it possibly be any suggestions? VIP_CAMO 02-05-2011, 12:12 AM So it revs up and stays at that rpm then it just turns off?How long does it stay on?Does it ever seem like it does not want to start?Im kinda leaning toward a fuel pump.Any more info?symptoms? BigJohnXa 02-05-2011, 03:02 AM well it revs to like 3 grand on startup and then shuts off and it take a few seconds for it to start everytime i recently changed the plugs it didnt do it before that though so maybe the gap on the plugs is off? VIP_CAMO 02-05-2011, 04:28 AM Hummm:ponder:.Well most plugs are pre gaped but should be checked. Are you running NGK plugs? And if it revs up to 3k then turns off i dont think its the pump now.Check your wires to while you check your plugs to make sure they are not frayed maybe a bad signal.Im just tossing ideas out if anyone else has something help out. BigJohnXa 02-05-2011, 02:57 PM yeah i checked the plugs but the wires looked fine to me so im just lost here badbasic 02-05-2011, 06:07 PM how soon after the plug change did it start? if it started right after the install, it is good possibility of the plugs, unless a wire is crossed. Reactor 02-05-2011, 06:37 PM Not really possible to cross the wires on xB. VIP_CAMO 02-05-2011, 08:16 PM Well in his other post he had a misfire in #1 so he changed the plugs now has this issue, any one got ideas?or what compression our motors are at to see if #1 has failed on him Reactor 02-05-2011, 10:33 PM It should have set some code for high idle too. Anything? frogbox 02-06-2011, 03:57 AM Could be a massive vaccum leak. Check PCV hose , Brake booster hose. If nothing found there , test the fuel lines for leaks , might be sucking air so it could be the pump in the tank, there is a hose that goes on the pump for the regulator and they do crack at weird times.Does it have a full tank? A full tank would cover the air leak in the tank until the level drops. BigJohnXa 02-08-2011, 03:10 AM alright the problem was a vacuum line coming out of valve cover vettereddie 02-09-2011, 02:26 PM Not really possible to cross the wires on xB. Actually, I did exactly that when I re-installed a motor. The correct order (from belt side to transmission isde) for the plugs that connects to the coil packs is black, grey, black, grey. I had them installed grey, black, grey, black and fouled out two of the four plugs. Quickly realized the issue and swapped back, no issues after new plugs. BigJohn, if you need extra coil packs let me know, I've got two spare sets. I forgot to reconnect my PCV line @ PTuning on a dyno run, took them a while to find it and they weren't happy about it. Probably wasted 2 or 3 pulls because of it. |
