Question Battery positive

I know it's important to keep positive contacts from grounding, so I'm wondering why replacement positive battery terminals have so much metal exposed?

Specifically, I want to connect these connectors:

to this positive terminal:

but i'm worried about the metal from the connector sticking out from the terminal. why dont they cover the sleeve part with rubber insulation or something? same concern with the the inline fuse, which is also the 5/16 connector type.

Just put some shrink tube over it

You can get colorful shrink wrap. Like you said though the power can ground easily over the top of the battery. If you battery gets really dirty or muddy you can actually kill your battery because it is jumping across the terminals, this happened a lot on the Corvettes we sold. It's a common issue and sacrificing a little looks for a charged battery is a good trade off in my opinion.

Well I'll be darn sure to get some red shrink tubes. I can careless about looks. It's all 100% utility for my build.

Matter of fact, I may even double or triple layer the shrink in this case.

thanks

metal exposed? there is very little metal exposed on the terminals you're showing. especially when you attach you're positive wires.
wait...you do know that you're supposed to use an allen wrench and remove those connectors, which will enable the bare wire to slide into the new terminals? thus eliminating any possible exposed contact points. but you knew that right?

sorry if what i said is confusing, but yeah i know. the positive battery terminal i'm talking about is only for 5/16 ring connectors, not bare cable.

here is the bare cabe kind:

here's the 5/16 connector kind - what i got:

http://www.stingerelectronics.com/pr...&CategoryID=10

what im talking about is the part of the ring connector sleeve that sticks out from under the clear plastic terminal cover - that part is very much exposed, and that's the part i need to cover with shrink.

that makes much more sense. personally i would never go that route, but to each their own. those terminals aren't exactly made for those kind of ring terminals. you may run into clearance issues because of the thickness of the ring.

yeah, i'm only going that way because i got the stuff second hand for pretty cheap... but i'm considering cleaning the stuff off and maybe selling it and going with something else, like the direct 0awg battery terminal kind. not at all comfortable with that huge protruding metal sleeve chunk on the 5/16th connector.

something like this would be cool:

or even better, this:

price is the only obstacle

Stinger is one of the most expensive brands you can buy. If you're not that brand loyal, you can get just as good of products for much cheaper.

im not brand loyal at all. but i am science loyal. the only things that matter in RCAs is low capacitance and shielding. any other fancy junk described in a cable's marketing is basically bs.

i actually just about went with some knu RCAs, but came across this, which was pretty disappointing:

http://stereointegrity.com/forums/in...rca-kable.html

at this point im leaning towards making my own cable with some raw LC-1 wire from BJC and some RCA connectors.
