View Full Version : JDM HID
itzjere 03-11-2005, 09:41 PM Anyone have these? Looking to put HIDs on my xA soon and just exploring options. I heard the JDM ones don't have glare and won't go into oncoming traffic.
If you have HIDs, but not the JDM ones (i.e. McCulloch), any information would be appreciated too. Pictures would be nice! Thanks.
Cockpit_XB 03-11-2005, 10:35 PM i have the hella ones on my car, people keep high beaming me where ever i go, but im the type of person that doesnt give a crap, they're nice & bright too.
itzjere 03-11-2005, 10:40 PM Where'd you get your Hellas? Got any pictures?
silvadragun31 03-11-2005, 10:55 PM i am running the vision hid's, check out hid-lights.com, they look exactly like the ones on the bmw and lexus.
cseika 03-13-2005, 04:11 AM JDM's don't have glare... probably would have an excellent light cut-off too! HOWEVER, keep in mind that, in Japan they drive on the opposite side than us! so that means our beam pattern is like this ---/ ---/ in order to light up road signs... Those JDMs due to different side of driving.. their beams would be like this \--- \---
So technically, you won't glare all over the place like HID kit but, you WOULD still glare in opposing traffic... and you might have probs trying to read road signs on the right side
djct_watt 03-15-2005, 06:59 AM I hear our headlights work well with aftermarket HID's. . . but i've only heard and not seen. Supposedly they fair well. . . better than a lot of other cars for not creating glare. And yeah. . . getting the JDM one is kinda pointless (if you are worried about glare).
FASTER345 03-16-2005, 03:26 PM I also want HID but remember you also lose hi-beams with the HID kits, unless you pony up for a twin filament bulb which is often twice as pricey.
itzjere 03-16-2005, 08:35 PM Oh really? I didn't know that.. Thanks for the heads up.. i probably would have thought I broke something
cseika 03-19-2005, 06:35 AM I also want HID but remember you also lose hi-beams with the HID kits, unless you pony up for a twin filament bulb which is often twice as pricey.
Now you've mentioned it! So how DOES those JDM ones work?? They still have 1 main bulb for each housing right? So do they come Dual Beam HID like our H4s then?
djct_watt 03-19-2005, 10:50 AM I'm assuming they use something similar to some of the Lexus line and other high end OEM HID's, in the models which lack a seperate high beam hosuing. . . they have auto-levelers which maintain a certain angle of the light, relative to the road. On these cars, when you switch on the high beams, they tilt the bulb and reflector at a certain angle, so as to aim the beam higher. Believe it or not, high beams have less to do with higher wattages than they do with a higher aim. You'll notice that on our H4 bulbs, the second filament is in that position where the light beam will aim higher. Visibility is higher, but it also blinds people. . . I'm ASSUMING that is the case with the JDM HID's, as we do not have a seperate high beam housing.
cseika 03-19-2005, 11:50 PM IC! kinda like those Dual beam HID kits they sell...
So that means if we can get our hands on those HID hardware perhaps we can fabricate a OEM dual beam HID with our USDM housing... I currently have OEM housing with single beam HID and... i'm surprised the cutoff is actually pretty acceptable... No whrere near projector but good enough..
itzjere 03-20-2005, 04:44 AM Do you have any pictures of your HIDs? What kit are you using?
We have 3 FL-ists in Singapore with the original HIDs from Toyota. Its true there is less glare n its pretty white and effective. Unforutnately it will be quite a task to wire up as the entire headlamp unit needs to be replace. Also, there is an additional fuse box and head lamp leveller switch to be mounted. I dun have any picts yet but I'll try to get some when they r available.
FASTER345 03-22-2005, 05:30 PM My S2000 has halogen high beams with HID low beams. That setup seems to work pretty well. If you can find a place for a couple of bright lamps you could wire them as your high-beams. Maybe in the fog light holes, or where the little 'running lamps' are in the main housing. I'm still waiting for the company that makes the HID projectors for the xB to make them for the xA. Anyone know about that project???
