View Full Version : Engine Swap?
xB2005 02-10-2004, 11:21 PM I was wondering if a 3S-GTE engine could be put into the xB I used to have and MR2 and I loved the way it drove. A little while ago I saw a feature in HCI magazine where some guys installed a 3S-GTE in a new Celica, and I just wanted to know if it was possible. Gotta love that turbo engine.
rbloedow 02-11-2004, 12:11 AM What exactly did you love about the engine?
its_ikon 02-11-2004, 01:42 AM the engine is a great engine. a lot of tuning possibilities. the best bet for the xB would be the 4AGZE
truenfalse86 02-11-2004, 01:54 AM if youve got to ask a question like this and you dont readily know... it doesnt seem like you have much experience with cars, and my answer to your question... "wondering if a 3S-GTE engine could be put into the xB?" would be no.
because you "once had an mr2" common knowledge tells you what?
GruntStyle 02-11-2004, 02:13 AM i have come to realize that anything is possible is your pockets aren't empty and are very deep $$$$$$$$$$. but i agree the 4AGZE is the best bet!
zmunkee 02-11-2004, 04:50 AM Or maybe just a 4age and not the supercharged version seeing as how they stoped making 4agze's
truenfalse86 02-11-2004, 04:56 AM what do you mean, by stopped making... toyota doesnt produce them anymore at all. but 4ags are easier to find as aposed to 4agzes, if thats what youre implying. an s/c setup would pep things up a bit. as well as a nicely tuned carbed 4ag, w/ cams small block, etc. but it wouldnt be able to pass smog.
zmunkee 02-11-2004, 05:55 AM What do you think the old Mr2 supercharged engine was??? On the block it is stamped 4agze, z=supercharged. So yea there is a production model 4agze, but no longer available. Now they just make 4age's with optional superchargers. The difference is production.
Dan_eboyfrom310XB 02-11-2004, 06:11 AM IF YOU GUYS WANT TO KNOW THA CELICA TURBOED MOTOR RUNS FOR 20,000 ITS WAT THA DEALER TOLD ME UNLESS YOU TELL A FRIEND TO HOOK YOU UP W/ THA MOTOR AND MAKE HIM CLAIM THA MOTOR AS STOLEN HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
truenfalse86 02-11-2004, 07:03 AM yeah, this would be my other car... http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/i=wMjcwNDExNnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D

doing the normal 4age engine will do nothing performance wise since it is rated at lower horsepower then the engine that comes in scion. the only benefit would be a large amount of tuning parts available, but if your going to spend the money then go with the supercharged version.

tsk tsk. I had a celica motor, but sold it. Too much work, not enough motivation. I hate being the pioneer for ____ like this. someone do the swap and make a kit.
http://www.xbmotoring.com/celica2.jpg There it was twin motor scion.
HotBox 02-11-2004, 08:55 PM i wonder if someone would do a rear engine rwd scion that be freakin cool in that pic that already have the motor in the back why stop there keep going :D

anything is possible and this would be my first car that was mine from day one, the mr2 was my brother's car until he passed it down to me

Are you retarted? The Blacktop 20v is rated at 160hp and 165 ft/lbs. Thats way more then our stock engine.

You're full of crap...
Alter_Ego 02-16-2004, 08:40 AM I can pick up the supercharged mr2 engines for under 1,000 shipped the last time I checked and got one for a customer. Not bad if they would go in there..........without too too much hassle.

hmmm what else can you get? what about jdm engines can you get those too by any chance
quadraphonic 02-16-2004, 02:34 PM The celica swap has been done in the UK, need MAJOR engine bay restructuring though.

Hey heres an Idea just swap to 20v blacktop 4age, save your cash and then buy a supercharger. It wont need any reconstructing of engine bay becuase its only .1 liter difference. Hows that for an Idea. Do you research kids.

from an person that owned (3) MKI mr2s you said 4AGE. That means you are talking about the 105hp 4AGE from the MKI mr2 which is why i said the normal 4AGE. Doing a 20 Valve is completely different and you should of mentioned that. 20 Valve is nice engine, but would probably need more modification. The 20 Valve engine should be used for an all motor engine since it is a high reving engine.

Its not a high reving engine. And 4age refers to the class not just one generation.

being an owner of an mk1... the 4age is a high revving engine. even the 20valve black top.

Sence when is 7400 high revving??? 13000 is high reving, 7400 is nothing for a Japanese 1.6L I4 engine.
zmunkee 02-17-2004, 03:17 PM futhermore, just cause your an owner doesnt mean you know anything abou engines.

correction: it is spelled since
the black top does not red line at 7400 rpms. it makes peak horsepower at 7800 rpms. sure 13,000 is high reving, but that is a race car and not a street car. for a street car 7800 is high reving.
one more educational lesson. look at this site and notice how he calls out "20 V" when talking about the 4AGE family. That is the proper way to call it out.

the silver top was made from 1993 to 1995 at 160hp and cut at 8500
the blacktop from 1996 to 1998 was 165hp and cut at 8500 with a bit more torque. its a high revving engine, the TRD tune up make it capable of developping 225hp@11 000rpm. some people install a turbo instead. the base is a 1.6liter block.
"just because i am an owner?"... you say...? im only 19 and obviously know more on this topic than you. i wonder what else? common sense maybe?

Read what you wrote dumbass, people people on a turbo because the stock 20v isnt high-revving. Most Japanese I4 rev to between 7-9k rpms, its normal. Get your ____ straight. Therefore, it would be a rare occasion to see I4 engine to rev above 9, which would make it a high-revving engine. And just because you watch too much Inital D doesnt mean you know anything about engines.
kdanie 02-17-2004, 09:17 PM HA.... I'm not going to bother looking at this thread anymore!!! Grow up children and get back on topic. The question was about engine swaps.... not who knows more about a certain engine series....
