View Full Version : Whose got a CF hood on their daily driver?
TheScionicMan 03-22-2005, 10:47 PM OK, I would love to see some up-close pics and hear what people have to say about running a CF hood all the time. How does it hold up to the sandblasting environment of our front ends? Does it chip like paint? Looks better or worse than paint when hit by a rock? Do you run a bra? 3M Bra? Are you running hood pins? Any other thoughts or concerns?
I'm interested in this mod, but most the peeps I've seen with a CF hood put it on only for show and run the blue tape protection, etc. If (I mean when) I get one, I'd probably want to run it all the time but don't want it to end up looking bad and don't want to have to spend lots of extra time worrying/caring for it. So what are your experiences? Please include pics too, thanks in advance.

EVILDAVE 03-23-2005, 12:18 AM Mine is still fine! But I had Jim put on the clear bra.
Gotta take care of mine it's a one of a kind!!
squirrel 03-23-2005, 12:37 AM Mine is fine now too. No more blue tape. No clear bra yet, but the treks out to the South Bay w/o the blue tape hasn't brought the nicks, dents and scratches that are on my OEM hood.
Fujiz_xb 03-23-2005, 12:50 AM clear bras are cool..pm if yall want one.
Scott17 03-23-2005, 12:54 AM I've had one for a while and have clear bra and the scion bra. nothing unusual has happened. :lalala:
chipzxb 03-23-2005, 03:02 AM Had the oem style for a year and no problems at all.. I drive the hetic highway everyday too. Now I have the bbist vented and will use that as my everyday hood. Will probably throw on a clear bra in time.

Wonderhut 03-23-2005, 11:25 AM Is it possible to paint a CF hood to the color of the vehicle? Kind of like a "covert" CF piece? :)

Yep. This is what I plan on doing. Some people will poo there pants at covering up the CF but whatever. Im painting mine :)
I have ran a CF hood on my subaru for almost 4 years now. The key to making it last is blocking the UV. Sure most places say it has a UV coating on it already, but dont belive them. You need to use a wax on the hood that blocks UV, or what I used to do was after I washed it, (ok this is going to sound wierd) but kinda buff in some sun screen into it. But other than the UV issues, mine has help up to the winter sand/salt. No rock chips or anyhting like that.

hugebox79 03-23-2005, 02:55 PM I have the oem cf hood and I have hood pins for more comfort for myself. The pins look nice and it holds it down much better.

Did you use any kind of special drill when you put the hood pins in...
hugebox79 03-23-2005, 05:06 PM Not really. We just put some tape around the area we were drilling and drilled through the tape. It came out relly nice. Sorry the pics aren't that good.
2tone_xB 03-23-2005, 10:07 PM chipz, looks nice painted.
wish i coulda saw more Scions in CO when I visited.
yeah this is an interesting topic. hope TSM gets his question answered.
StevisXb 03-27-2005, 04:11 PM hugebox79: What kind of pins are you running? Where can I get some?
JdMBboFSD 03-27-2005, 04:12 PM i have cf hood on my daily......no pics though.....
rolex87 03-28-2005, 02:40 AM Hey Mark, I run Steve's hood everyday with no problems. (shameless plug for bbist.com) The only reason I run blue tape to shows is so it doesn't get dirty. The finish has held up very well.
B2FiNiTY 03-28-2005, 05:29 PM Do you guys park your cars outside? Biggest concern I would have is with fading / yellowing / hazing.
