Default Can someone recommend an amp for my 2 JL 12W6v2's?

I know that I need something at the JL 1000/1 level, but theyre simply just too expensive. I'm looking for other options or at least an amp that might be more affordable used. I think my absolute highest limit is $400. I've been recommended RD 1000.1, Sundown SAZ-1500D, etc. but they're all still pretty pricey :/

The subs are dual 4 ohm I think, I'm not sure if you can wire them to 1 ohm?

You could wire them down to 1 ohm all together...but an amp that's stable at 1 ohm with enough power usually means $$$.

It may sound stupid, but you might want to also toy with the idea of two cheaper amps. Each one dedicated to each sub wired in parallel which would give you a much broader selection of amps. It might not be better, but its another approach. What's the rms rating on the sub?

Mrp m500 looks like a good idea. Their rated 500w at 2 ohms. Their a monoblock so that means two amps and maybe a few pieces to wire them correctly. Distribution blocks for power and possibly ground. Not a big deal. Their alot cheaper. Look for amps around the 500x1@2ohms

A 1000w@1ohm stable amp is gonna be up their in cost. Runnin 2@2ohms will probably be a better bet. But that's just my opinion.

I have thought about the 2 amp route, but I decided I don't want to do that, nor do I have the space. The JL's eat up the entire trunk. If the 2 JL's can for sure be wired to a 1 ohm load, that would open some options for me. Is this for sure possible? Some places I've read you can, others have said they can only do 2 ohm or 8 ohm.

Yes if their dual 4 ohm you can wire each speaker to a 2ohm load. (+ to + then - to - ) on each speaker from there you'd connect one positive terminal from each speaker to the + on the amp. Both negatives to the neg on the amp. That would then split the 2ohm load from each speaker down to a 1ohm load going to the amp

So yeah, I'm basically looking at an amp to power a 1 ohm or 4 ohm load, as that's the only two they can be configured to. Is there any disadvantage towards using 1 ohm or 4 ohm? I have heard that the higher the ohmage, the cleaner and more accurate the tonal SQ will be on the subs, which is something I would not like to sacrifice.

I was looking at this Fosgate.

But honestly, there are some refurbished JL 1000/1's out there for a little over $400, and if I was going to spend that much, I could have 1000 watts at 4 ohms rather than at 1 ohm with the Fosgate.

Yes typically the higher the ohm load the better the sound quality. But it falls into the same category as performance parts. A high quality 1ohm stable amp may sound better than a ____ty amp running 4ohms. The refurb jl amps probably aren't a bad idea. But you do run that risk ya know? Im a fan of alpine but a $400 1000/1 ain't bad.

Would you guys say that I need a new battery or alternator with my setup now? I'll have 2 12w6's on the 1000/1 and Focal 165v2's as the components (rated 75 rms each).

Should I consider upgrading anything else yet?
