Default Welded Spider Gears - Anyone?

I know it may not be the best option for a daily driver but has anyone done this to their tC?? For people unfamiliar with this, it is when you weld the spider gears in your OEM differential so both wheels are spinning and locked at ALL times. Any idea on cost of this on the tC transmission?

On turn it will squeal yes....you will burn thru tires quicker when turning yes.....you will get increased traction YESSS!!!!! Unlike the LSD available the wheels will ALWAYS be locked insane tracking off the line....I did specify not recommended for daily driver.

Thats a pretty "stupid" comment - People have done it for years on RWD and FWD cars, trucks, SUVs. Older RWD cars and RWD import drift cars do it with great success. Just seeing if anyone was BRAVE enough to try it. I guess Ill be the brave one.

I looked into the e351 and was hard to find a manual one anywhere. I wouldnt want a used one but a rebuilt one anyways.

Technically, the welded on should out perform the e351 TRACTION wise but it would be nice to have the diff gear ratio and top speed.

Im looking for helpful information and/or experiences. thanks for your input.

the biggest factor in traction would be the tires first. unless you already have racing slicks.

I have had a few friends with welded difs in there 240s no real problems except as stated above about the squeaking whil turning.

What are you looking to do with your car track, drag, or hwy?

The e351 is great for F/I the longer gears really helpped me out buy I manly hwy with 50-65 rolls cause any thing lower then that = no traction.

Do you know how to tear the transmssion apart your self and reassemble because if so I have 3 blown transmissions 2 stock and 1 e351 if your local I can let you take one to test your theory I wouldn't mind seeing the out come. The only problem with the transe the first e350 has no 3rd the second e350 has no 5th gear bought it only to take the 5th out But the bellhousings bad and the e351 has a blown 3rd gear snchro blown 3rd gear and blown4th gear synchro let me know if interested.

i'm going to explain my actions and here it is... my method of thinking is this.. i'm ok with you asking if someone has ever done this on their vehicle..

however it's this question in particular:

that displays that debatable lack of knowledge that you would need to get the modification done in the first place. if you wanted to get it done for the right reasons.. you would've already done so.

it's good you understand the wheels will hate you when making any turn..
debating that you're really only doing this for the increased traction?? it's like killing a fly with a grenade.. expensive, unpractical, and overkill... and won't solve the issue completely.

if you're planning to retire the car as a daily and converting it to a drag racing car and have it be a trailer queen.. that's one thing. any other reasons besides that.. I cannot stand back and just shake my head.. you do what you want with your car... it's yours.

i'm only stating my opinion.. take it or leave.

Why don't you go with slicks first? I have some I'd sell you by the way...

^^ that's exactly what i mentioned... start with the weakest point of traction first.

similar comparison.. mirroring audio systems... it's like replacing your stock speakers first with high end components without even touching the headunit.. the main source of your audio..
except in your case.. an even bigger impracticality.

so i suppose the real question is... why do you want to do this? what are you trying to achieve?? and don't tell me it's just for traction... what direction are you building your vehicle?
