Hello all, I am currently waiting on delivery of my 2012 tC. I am switching over from a 08 civic. I tried to do a search, but it doesn't want to work on my phone app so sorry if it's a repeated topic.

In my civic I babied the engine for the first 1000 miles, not going over 60mph and not over 3k rpms. I didn't even redline it until 3000 miles!! Everything ran great, no problems at all, but the fuel economy was not up to par with other civic owners I know and it seemed like the engine did not run as smooth either. (yes I know driving style plays a BIG part in mpg, I tested many styles of driving over months)

I wanted to get some input of your engine break in style and results. Did you baby it, follow the owners manual (assuming it has a recommendation, I don't know yet) or drive it like you stole it?

for breaking in i followed the owners manual...uhm under 50mph for the first 500miles? i think...something like that, i forgot exactly

had the 1 year to the date this weekend and engine has been running great. kept up with all services...checked fluids once in a while...kept it clean...just regular stuff really. well maybe a little more keeping clean for me since i got sponsors n they take photos of my car as well as keeping it clean for shows

Some people would advise you to drive it normally as you would drive it for the life of the car, no need to baby it.

for the first 500 miles i tried not to go past 60 and i tried not to stay steady at the same speed for a long period of time so if i felt like i was doing 60 for a while i wud go like 65 the most and drop down back to 60 or 55! then the next 500 miles i did some spirited driving and tried to open her up here and there. Then after 1000 miles i just kinda beat her up a few times and alot of things that were annoying me went away. I was getting this annoying vibration at idle and i complained about it a few times and after i really opened her up and took her to about 120-130 it went away and never came back. Even with upgraded motor mount i barely get vibrations now

120-130? Nice! I have been reading all over the Internet about this. The main consensus IMO is easy varied driving for the first 500 and how you would normally drive till 1000 avoiding redline and the get spirited after that :D

Keep in mind this was info from Mustang's, BMW's, Subaru's, bikes, etc. Not as much info for the small engines.

I drive it like I'am always going to. Keep up on fluid changes,early rather then late and every car I've had so far has done just fine.
