Default Coilover Spring Rate Discussion

Didn't want to dilute any of the coilover pre-order threads so I decided to make this one where we can discuss and compare various coilovers.

So I'll start off this thread with a question that got me to make this thread:

So far with Tein and Tanabe, I have noticed that the spring rates are lower for the tC2 than the tC1 for the same type of coilovers. I am a bit confused because I figured a slightly heavier tC2 would warrant a similar or higher spring rate. What kind of suspension changes on the tC2 would make it such that the tC2 uses lower spring rates?

For example: Tein SS-P - tC1 7/10 (F/R) kg/mm
tC2 6/6 (F/R) kg/mm

Tanabe Sustec - tC1 6/8 (F/R) kg/mm
tC2 3.4/6.3 (F/R) kg/mm

as far as I know, the strut/spring setup on the front is the same, but on the back they changed to the xB2's suspension design with the spring and shock installed separately. I imagine that has to affect it somehow.. :/
