Company that manufactured faulty tail lights?
Hi,
What is the name of the company that manufactured the faulty tail lights?
Here's what I'm talking about:

I'm not sure if it's TRD or TYC, since a Google search produces results for either name.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Oh, sorry, but I was referencing the following, take a look:

TYC is its own brand, not affiliated with Toyota, but they do make some OEM headlights and taillights. I think 05-07 tC headlights are by TYC, I don't know about the lighting for other Scions.
So who would be responsible for the faulty tails?
I know my dealership warranted them for a year. And when I went to get them replaced, they said they can't do it and offered to sell me a replacement. Furthermore, they advertised them as "genuine" Toyota.
So I'm not sure if it all falls on one party or on both.

Maybe so, but who paid good money on those fugly lights? Now if they have working reverse lights in them, then I can see spending $200+ but if not then well no. The warranty apparently has expired, so no real blame should go to the maker of the product. It lasted as long as the warranty was for.
If it's certain that all or almost all the lights they sold went bad, then they either:
1. Produced a product that wasn't thoroughly tested, branded it as a "genuine" part, and sold it at a premium.
2. Produced a poorly made product that they knew couldn't last past a year, gave it that warranty anyway, and sold it at a premium.
Either way, they've committed consumer fraud. Why? Because they sold a product that was destined to fail, and on top of that, create a hazardous driving condition with faulty brake lights.
Don't get me wrong, if lets say only 10-15% of the lights sold had those problems, that's an understandable number. Sometimes you will buy a bad egg.
But in this case, all the eggs were bad, yet they're somehow allowed to run with your money.
Let's say you continued getting warranty replacements, what would happen if they had no more lights to give you? Should they just give you a refund? Or run with your money? Well, I guess they've already made their decision.
Anyways, the reason I'm asking is because they should be investigated since they sold faulty products destined to fail, unsafe to drive with, and illegal for street use.
If it fails within the warranty, then use the warranty. If it fails a second time demand your money back. If it fails after the warranty then you're usually s.o.l. But, imo it is up to the consumer to do their homework and take somewhat educated risks. 1st the warranty is only for a year, 2nd you're replacing a simple stock light with one that's a lot more complicated and untested (presumably), 3rd it costs too much for what you're getting, 4th quality of parts (mainly what co. used in the past), etc. You don't always get what you paid for unfortunately. In any case the best and probably only thing you can do at this point is warn others as you are doing here.
I don't think it's too late, I think that not enough people have formerly made complaints. For example, a man named "Ozzie Freedom" was selling bogus kits on how to convert your car to partially obtain fuel from water. And now that enough people complained, the state of Texas is suing him:

If they're successful (and no doubt will be in this case), then all his customers will be refunded.
That's what I would like to happen to TYC.
