Default 87 or 89 Octane in 2008 Scion XB?

I was curious as to if there would be any added benifit to running 89 octane in my 08 Scion XB as opposed to 87. The MFA oil station right by my house (where I usually fill up) sells mid grade 89 octane for the same price as regular 87 octane fuel. Would it benifit or hurt my box any. My XB is basicaly stock the only thing I've added is a TRD performance drop in air filter. Thanks for your advice!

I've never heard of anyone having trouble with 87.

87 is perfect. You may see benefit of a higher octane on very hot humid days or once you turbo it or do some heavy engine mods. Otherwise the engine and factory tune is setup for lower octane fuel.

My Eclipse is certfied for 87 octane but gets easily better mpg with 89. My xB2 is happy with 87 and I see no apparent advantage to running 89 instead.

Nope, stock motor is built for 87 octane. There is no benefits nor does it hurt when using 89. you'll be just wasting your money.
