Just released for the Scion tC = the Alphawerks Racing "Smart" O2 Simulator. What does this mean?

1. Max horsepower w/o cat
2. No cat reliability issues
3. No check engine light ever (made in china cat's will throw CEL in time because they will get used up and then you are back at square one with a CEL problem.)

Get your Alpha Werks header at http://www.racingsolution.com/products/Scion/TC/1166/SciontC4-1StainlessSteelHeader

These headers don't throw a CEL because they have an O2 simulator, not because of the cat. A good product regardless. If their prices were lower I would have bought theirs instead of Megan's to save myself from the hassle of fixing the CEL, but even that is a relatively simple fix in itself. Both are great products, just massively gapped in price.

too much $$$$$$$!

You get what you pay for...

I know that they are retailing for about $400...what do you get for that $

1. Most horsepower - We will sponsor anyone here to prove it
2. Best quality and design - ISO-9001 manufacturer certified
3. OEM stock bracket (w/o this welds on exhaust manifold will crack)
4. No check engine light ever w/ our Smart O2 Simulator ("Made in China" cat's will cause more problems than they solve, unfortunately, not to mention loss of power)
5. Patent Pending 4-1 collector
6. 100% T-304 STAINLESS STEEL, TIG WELDED

Those that have the piece know how beautiful the piece is...the header really speaks for itself...

Well you got my vote... this really looks like a good product, and no CEL w/o a very bad looking anti-fouler trick... but I will definetly post a review when I get one to give my opinion on it.

There hasn't been a dyno of just the header yet, however Alpha werks is looking to sponsor someone to do the dyno of the header by itself.

If you are a forum member and can make it to South Florida for dyno we can sponsor the vehicle. Sorry we could not do at West Coast facility but we are very busy out there with R&D projects for Mazda RX8, Mitsubishi EVO 8 and Lexus SC430.

Hey NEXUS, put the header to the test, send it our way. We will have dyno numbers and all...

If it works out we can push this direct to Scion Corp and Scion Dealers.

TheQuietThings

it sure as hell wont pass NY, NJ, or CA emissions lol, but possibly other states, dont hold me to it though, i may be wrong.

my only concern with Alphawerks is the lame warranty 1yr. The header is beautiful, and of course your powertrain warranty is gone.

alphawerks header = no money problems

Mr_Meaty
04-08-2005, 04:47 AM
My understanding is that any after market header is not street legal because it will not pass emmissions because it removed one of the cats, hence the "Check Engine Light" problem. But I could be wrong.

TheQuietThings
04-08-2005, 04:55 AM
it will not pass visual inspection, but the engine itself runs fairly clean, so it is possible in some states that it may pass

Mr_Meaty
04-08-2005, 05:45 AM
How come it won't pass visual inspection?

nchyflyer
04-08-2005, 11:24 AM
Becuase they can see right away you removed the first cat... which is not legal.

the engine will almost certainly pass the sniffer test, just no way it will pass visual, most CARB legal headers have their CARB exemption number stamped right on the piping. If you find a shop that will overlook some visual stuff..........also new cars in Cali dont need smog for like 5 or 6 years from new, thats what your smog abatement fee is for.

What if you put that original cover back over the new header, might be overlooked.

there are no headers available for the tC that are emissions legal. hopefully some will come out in the future though.

but you can put the steel cover that the stock have and you can pass the inspection, right?

TheQuietThings

if you dont live in a state with strict CARB tests, then i would guess its possible. here it NYC it is no possible.

Please go to http://alphawerks.com/dyno/scion_tC_dyno.htm for ALL SOUND CLIPS...

In the clips you will see that the sound is not ricey...it actually give the car a deeper tone...

which header is legal?

The Alphawerks header is legal in every state that does not have CARB testing.

The only CARB state is California.

But, no header can pass CARB and it never will because you have to change the cat on the header which means that it will not pass no matter what.

But the header will pass SMOG without CARB in every other state no problem.

NYC has carb testing

smog is the sniffer test right? what is CARB?

TheQuietThings
04-09-2005, 04:31 PM
haha i am so sorry, CARB is only California residents, CARB stands for California Air Resources Board.

Smog is formed due to improperly burned fuels. In cases where to much fuel is presented to the engine cambers high levels of Carbon Monoxides (CO) are emitted through the engine tail pipe. In cases where low fuel levels are presented, once again the fuel burns improperly and now the engine produces low levels of CO, but begins to emit high levels of Nitrous Oxides (NOx). The engine may also miss-fire due to inadequate fuel, creating excessive Hydrocarbons (HC).

The optimum performance level is achieved when the engine can maintain a 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio during the combustion process with a constant variation +/- 5% to assist the catalytic converter operation. The "Basic" smog test requires vehicles to be tested, only at idle and 2500 rpms. "Basic" smog test vehicles do not need to be driven on a dynomometer.

To this point the Smart Sim's have only been sold with the headers. Our fear is having all the R+D we put into the header go to waste by having someone just copy the design on the Smart Sim. By only offering them to this point with the headers we at least provide an obstacle to someone from just putting down a couple of bucks and copy the design for the Smart Sim. I assume that at somepoint we will offer it seperately. When that happens scionlife.com members will be the first to know. I wish I could just give it to you guys because that is not a part that we make money on but there are too many companies out there that just copy product and do not do their own legwork to get the job done. Again I wish it were otherwise.
