Need advice, etc. I've got an Indgo Ink TC with around 9500 miles on it, all from driving to and from work on pavement. The front of my car looks like it has about 80k miles on it. I live in Oregon so it just rains, no sand, no snow, etc. The chips go all the way to the metal, showing white, and in the bumper they go to the plastic. Where the metal is showing I can tell the paint (including clear coat) is no thicker then a piece of copy paper. I've never seen paint this thin before and its basically ruined.
Will the dealer, Toyota or Scion fix this? How can I go about asking or complaining? As it sits now, when it has 50k miles on it the front of my blue car will be white/rust from crappy paint job and I will be forced to paint it before I sell it. Can I use the rust protection warranty in this situation? If this car was in Salt Lake City Utah I am sure it would begin to rust very shortly! Should I just rub salt into the metal and start it to rust to force them to take action?
Please advise!

I dont think scion/toyota will repair this. I believe it falls under Wear/tear and wont be covered. Your best bet...have it re-painted and buy a CLEAR BRA for the front to prevent it from happening again.

I have noticed the same issue on my car with the chipping,
I have a tC with 22K on it. I've noticed about 5 spots that, as you describe it, are clear down to the metal.

It was to Apex. Just telling him that if you say you have a problem, some consider it whining or bashing the company.

It's not bashing when it's the truth mate. The car should have been painted heavier. My MR2 has gone the same route for far longer and has maybe 2 chips, but the paint is so thick that it never went to the metal. I'll see if I can get a picture to post of the problem, then you'll understand what I am talking about.

I would definitely take it back to your dealer. The dealer can always go out of their way to help and possibly repaint though the warranty would preclude. If they don't want to help, then you are back to square one. The suggestion about repainting the hood and then applying the clear bra is the best one so far. Might set you back $800-$1000 but your car is so new.

No man, I agree with you completely.....paint and clear coat are weak. I had this discussion a couple of weeks ago and someone told me to stop bashing the company. I love my car, just kinda ____ed about the paint on it.

Hey my xA has the same problem, there is about 6500 miles on it and about 10-15 scratches/knicks/craters on it. The paint doesn't seem to hold up at all.

Hi,
I have ran into a similar problem with my BSP tC. My rear bumper is full of paint chips and scratches, some that reveal the metal underneath, it's very depressing. How much will it cost me to have the rear bumper fixed? Is it cheaper to just replace it.... ? <sigh>
