Default Paint Issues

So I have searched and searched for threads regarding paint issues.....I know people have had some, I remember seeing threads...I've had some issues with my paint.

I'm heading to Scion corporate with this issue and would like to have any back up that is available. Please let me know if your paint has been chipping/scraping/scratching more than it should.

Also, if you know of previous posts/threads regarding any of these issues, please forward links on as well....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Man, my Spec V was way worse and we had a petition signed by like 1,000 freegin people. Like it was previously stated, you bought a cheap car and you aren't going to see results.

Cheap car or not, the paint should not be chipping so easily....like for example at the rear most edge of the hood.....it's almost horizontal in that area, rocks/pebbles/debris would almost be flowing in a horizontal direction. They shouldn't impacting the finish so much.....I can see in a cheap car having cheaper materials, thinner materials (like the sheetmetal), and many "carryover" parts....but the show surfaces should still all be at least "average"....

So does anybody have links to the previous paint threads...that's all I'm really looking for...

Thanks.

I have been through this myself with the dealership . My paint flaws are being repaired only cuz they were flaws created when the paint was applied to the body . But Scion is gonna fight you regarding the paint chipping . The paint is thin and is gonna chip , Hell had mine a week and already got chips and NO I DONT TAIL GATE PEOPLE . I also see your point about the paint chipping where it is on the hood . If your talkign about the paint that is on the edge of the hood near the wipers , then yes I would see about that . if the chips are on the leading edge of the hood they wont do anything about it . In my opinion the best option you have is taking digital photos of the chipping if possible (using a digital cam if your familar with it use MACRO mode for close ups) Contact Scion corporate and see if you can contact someone and email the images , be detailed when you take the images . Maybe when they see the location of the paint chips they might do something , but in all honesty this is a touchy subject with Scion so best of luck to ya .

I haven't had any paint issues. If anything the paint on my Scion is higher quality than most cars twice the price. I used to run a detailing shop and the paint of the entire toyota line is incredible. Tons more luster and depth than any car in it's class.

If you're having problems with rocks hitting your paint and it chipping and blaming it on the paint maybe you don't understand what paint it. Or what kind of forces are involved when even a tiny pebble hits your car at 80mph. Try riding a motorcycle shirtless sometime, you'll get the idea real quick.

Would you thrown a pebble at your car as hard as you can? Figuring you were average, you can thrown at about 40-55mph... Not even close to 70-80 like you drive down the freeway. Now imagine that happening hundreds of times a week.

If you don't like paint damage on your car from rocks hitting it, get a clear bra, and stop driving your car.

The 72 chevy probably had all chrome and grill up front. Today's cars have paint everywhere.

The chipping is pretty bad. My whole front bumper has like little chips everywhere. They could have used a thicker clearcoat. I have a 1986 honda civic hatch, 172,000 miles and it hardly has chips in the paint. This is a problem which needs to be corrected.

Any of you guys tried 5 star Paint treatment? PTFE (teflon) application...better than any wax....may not deter chipping rocks, but I am going to do my RS 1.0 next week... I already received the treatment (about $75)... supposedly you just wash the car down every week or so for the next 5 years. No waxing or buffing again...

Huh whats 5starshine gotta do with "Rock Chipping", its not a "Clear Bra" or anything that helps eliminate rock chipping. I've used 5 star shine on my 2002 SE-R and I aplied 2 years ago. OMG dont buy it, its a waste..... Nuff said.

I can't believe people are suggesting it's ok that the paint chips because the car is cheap or stop driving the car or compare it to throwing pebbles at your car....these are ridiculous comments. You're ignorant people if you believe this, your catering to Scion.

A.) When rocks are thrown up from other vehicles they typically begin travelling in the direction the vehicle was moving, the relative velocities change the dynamics.

2.) If you throw a pebble normal to a surface you are going to have more damage then if you throw it at a surface that is nearly parrallel to the angle of the pebbles path. This was the case with many of my chips (ie rear edge of the hood).

C.) My other cars have never had this problem and they did not have a bra.

Scion needs to address this issue. There is obviously a problem here; there's a number of threads discussing it....and I've never experienced anything like it.

I agree with you 100% Pfaudi.. those have been some of the points I've tried to make all along, but oh well, some people are either with you or against you on issues like this.

PS Why the hell was this thread moved to drag coefficient? It should have been left in General Discussion tC, because that's what it is. It doesn't really have anything to do with aftermarket aero parts and exterior dress items.

good question smash....maybe because all paint chips are so numerous that they affect the car's drag.

I believe the reason it was moved is because drag coefficient is the category that covers all things visual and practical about the exterior of the car.

The paint is a stretch though. Don't ask me.
