Default Oil spill...any thoughts

To make a long story short, I had to change my oil in a hury and also re-use the oil in the motor. Again, to keep a long story short.

As I was pouring the oil back into the engine I accedentaly had a slight spill which fell over part of the valve cover and worse over the alternator. It wasn't a hole lot but enought to coat everything in it's path nicely.

So, I wipped of as much as I could and am wondering if I shoud be concerned about all the oil that fell on the alternator. I read the thread about cleaning the engine bay and I guess I can do that, but will that sufice?

Any comments/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why would anyone re-use old oil? I know we don't know each other bro but cut me some slack. The oil in the engine was new, only a couple of days old and that's why I re-used it.
My concern is the oil that spilled on the altornator. I do plan to wash the engine bay w/ some simple green but I just wanted to know if that would be enough, or should I do something else.

You should drain your gas tank and fill it back up again with the same gas.

sheesh, especially- do not spill vinegar into your alternator

The oil that might have gotten into the alternator won't harm a thing

To degrease the oily bay, I suggest GoJo on a soft paint brush. Smoosh it around. It is the best oil emulsifier and very cheap

It's very gentle, too on plastics and paints....hey! after all, GoJo -is- hand cleaner.

See the thread about the GoJo miracles? I am not a GoJo affiliate. I just know a good product of vast value when I see it.

sidebar: never pour used oil back into your engine. If there's a bit of grit (sand) in that oil why, your just pouring it over the valvetrain. Tiny risk but why scratch a lobe?

let's relax over that question- a fair-enough question but here's the truth:

-motor oil is not gonna flame by itself. Even if spilled on the exhaust manifold it will just smoke off in a few minutes. No fire.

Remember, only -vapors- are ignitable. Oil is not normally in a vapor state. Even oil vapor is very hard to burn. You'd need a -red heat- to even ignite gasoline vapors.

Now, what part on the engine ever gets red-hot? Only the exhaust manifold and only when the engine is running full load full throttle, practically. Not gonna catch anything on fire here or in any scenario barring say... pouring raw gasoline onto a very hot exhaust manifold.

oil just won't flame out the car. so...all concerned should.... (elmer fudd voice)
