Default The Cracked Tailight, and the useless dealership.

About 2 weeks ago I was closing my hatch when I heard a small clinking noise on the ground. Looking down I saw a small piece of transparent plastic, and looking up I noticed a small chunk of the side of my third brake light (the LED one) had broken and fallen off.

Upon closer inspection I noticed there was a structural weakness in the brake light: the tips of the sides of it were not actually fastened to the car like the rest of the taillight was, they simply were attached to the rest of the taillight. But that still didn't explain why it broke.

Today I take my tC to the dealership that I purchased it from to have them look at it and solve my increasingly annoying squeeky brakes. I made an appointment days in advance then showed up promptly for it. I told them of both problems then waited. and waited. and waited.

Two and a half hours later I was told that

A) They thought someone had attempted to either damage my car or steal my taillight, so it was not their responsibility to fix it. I would have to pay to replace the whole part "when I was ready"

B) because of the rain they could not "hear the squeeky brakes" and did a visual inspection, and after finding nothing wrong, said I should return to them on a dryer day so they could hear it.

What made me absolutely furious about the whole thing was that the moment I left the lot I could hear my brakes squeel loud as before, and on top of that the key for the wheel locks hadn't even been touched making me believe they didn't even remove the wheels to look at the brakes.

I'm really upset about this entire situation and feel a little cheated. I seriously doubt they even looked at the brakes or drove the car to see if it was squeeky, and on top of that I think it was really easy of them to blame a possible design flaw on someone "trying to rip it off". On top of this two and a half hours of a very busy day were wasted for me.

Who would be the most effective person to complain to about these problems?

some dealerships really suck. try calling corporate and complain til something happens or try a different dealer if you have them in the area.

if it did look like vandelizm its not covered under warranty. you an call scion and they are super helpful. dont hesitate to call them but most likely you may have to shell out the cost for a third brakelignt.

how many miles are on the car. and does it squeak when cold or anyhitng like that. i was a BMW mechanic i might be able to help you diagnose your problem. hit me up in AIM or email me

This shows you how the 3rd lamp and how it attaches (Scion fiche):

Looks like it's supposed to bolt in at 4 places along the lamp.

I can sell you one for $80 if you want it. I haven't seen lone break on it's own yet though...

As for contacting Scion, check my sig.

most of the scion salespeople i've come accross are cool, outstanding guys (or girls). However most "service" departments are worthless. for example, My brother is the General Sales Manager for a big dealership here in baton rouge. You would think that would work to my advantage... NOT! I got a spoiler put on at the dealership and its been squeaking since, i brought it in and they kept my car overnight (put me in an xA!!). They said they fixed the problem. Bull____. It ____es me off that they do that ____, I dont want to bother my brother with the problem because he has enough ____ to worry about, but if i go in again and they don't fix it i think he'll get in someone's ___ for me. ;)

Be sure to nail that dealer in the dealer ratings here on Scion Life.

easy on the language. Your brother isnt really responsable the service manager is. if you have a repeat complant theyll fix it free of charge. they installed it its warrantied the lengh of your warranty. and be specific on your squeaking. squeaking complants are very hard to diagnose. and cure but you cant give up after one service appointment. go back and ask the service manager if you can show the Toyota tech where you think its squeaking and at what speed, Temp, weather, etc.

yeah some scion dealers do need to get a lot better if they expect us to come there for service.. some scion dealers have great reviews but a lot are mediocre at best!

definitely call scion and complain.. toyota/scion needs to do something about their dealerships!

Yeah, I'm sure you all have gotten the phone calls too, but when Scion called about my sales experience and service for OEM installations, she seemed OVERLY paranoid and was overly making sure that everything was PERFECT. I definitely appreciate that in an auto manufacturer.

Way to go!!
