Bikes on xB's
For anyone interested, I posted a couple of pictures of bikes carried on my xB. The rack is from Draft Master and I've had if for many years. I do not even know if they still offer this model. It's a shame if they don't, as I have yet to find a vehicle that it will not work on. Even works great in the bed of my F-150. The recumbent is a Vison, not made any more, but similar to many currently on the market. For comparison the other bike is my son's Raliegh road bike.
Great to hear there is another recumbent enthusiast in the Scion world. I've got an old Vison R40, but my main ride is a Rans Rocket. I haven't bothered with getting a rack yet. I just toss the Rocket inside the box and go.
Thanks. We just purchased a 2005 XB (not in receipt of it yet) and wife was asking about bike racks!! The one you mentioned, where does it go? on the back?? And I imagine it could handle two adult mountain bikes with ease? Thanks for the info. Scott
I haven't tried this yet, but I 've got two Yakima bike mounts (fork style).Thinking of mounting these to generic crossbars cut to length to fit inside the xB with seats folded down.Bikes will stand up and be protected from the elements.
Rans Rocket...great bike. I suspect my next 'bent will be a dual big wheel. I have not tried putting bikes inside but suspect it will work. I like the idea of the fork mounts, was just suggesting this to my son who is planning to get his sister's old Trooper. She wants an xA. Just hasn't been an opportunity to try. The rack hangs off the back with hooks over the rear door. For non-xBs I've put on a trunk as well as hung it off the back of minivans and stations wagons.

but I promise that two adult bikes will not fit...
but on a side note, since I have sold my xB I will be looking to sell my roof rack which I used for one season (aug to may) for mostly snowboarding... it is the Thule 444 and has been modified to fit the small channels instead of grabbing in the door jambs... this unit does not fit right out of the box, but needs "extensions"...
here's pics I do have...

Looks like it will work
that's essentially two road bikes (note wheels on mtn bike)... but I would venture to guess that two road bikes would not work... and I know two mountain bikes do not work... if you look in the pics the rear drops are actually touching, so this means that they are most likely wedged against both seats... and I can promise that the wheels will absolutely be encroaching on the driver's elbow...
so I don't stand corrected, I have a 17" and a 14.5" Trek Mtn bikes... you could stack them, but there is absolutely no way to fit them inside the car...

One thing I learned the hard way on rear-mounted bike racks. Make sure the tire doesn't get too close to the exhaust. I baked a tire that way coming home from college one summer...
