Default Sunroof

Has anyone figured out how to bypass or remove what ever causes the sunroof to pause when closing or when opening and only opens half way (I hate that)

Its a software thing. All you have to do is load the car computer's software onto your computer, decompile, interpret the resulting assembly code, find the part of the code that pauses, bypass it, recompile it, and reload it onto the car's computer. Simple as that.

Ravi

ps.
In case my sarcasm was missed, let me clarify. You can't remove the pause because its controlled by the car's computer software and not some mechanical switch.

Bothers the hell out of me. Especially after seeing the new Passat roof control. Turn the switch to desired position and you are done. Little things make the car. The tC switch could certainly be improved. Still love my tC

Actually I gotta agree that the tC's sunroof positions are strange. Why would I want it to pause 2 inches before the fully open position?? It would make infinitely more sense to make the sunroof switch action similar to the window switch. Push it halfway to open/close until switch is released, and push it all the way to open/close fully.

But whatever.

I guess if you paid $22,000 for your tC like you would for the Passat, then you can complain.

Little things do make the car. Like the auto up and down windows ;).

I miss that about my old audi.

You know that the tC is auto don't you all? You don't have to hold it down.

I used to own a Passat, and the sunroof control dial was unique, but the check engine light was constantly on for no reason, the seatbelt return springs didn't work, and the cd-changer was always f-ed up...I never had these types of problems with any of the 5 Toyotas I have owned...

Wow, lot's of people had something to say about my post! MY TURN
@ dslrdave....not really a complaint. More of an obvious observation. Did you catch the part about me "still loving my tC" ?? Damn!

@ Rivulent....I am with you on the window switches...very nice.

@ Motozen....I understand. Everyone gets bothered by something or another...here and there. This switch just happens to get to me. When you've seen better (ie. Passat or your Audi), it is harder to overlook.

@ ozzrob...If I am not mistaken, I think we were talking about the sunroof operation

I bought my tC because no other car could match it. Price/featues/appearence/Toyota build quality. BUT, if you think our precious tCs are flawless, guess again.
THE SWITCH IS NOT THE BEST. THIER ARE BETTER ONES.
Obvious observation. ohhhhh...and I STILL love my tC

My point about the sunroof switch, was that there are more important things to take into account, than the design of the sunroof switch, like overall quality. I agree that no car is flawless, but flaws are subjective...What may bother you about the sunroof switch is not keeping me awake at night..

22K???! more like 30K ridiculous dollars these days for a VW Passh#T.
Had one of those evil cars before I got my TC! I'd stay away from them unless you got tons of money to throw at it just to keep it on the road!!! Volkswagen has managed to take away the worst reliability awards from the British car manufacturers in just a period of a decade! The TC might be cheap in comparison and have less gadgets and gimmicks, but at least it will stay together and run without problems 150+K miles, easy! And it definitely is more fun to drive!
Oh, I do agree though that the stepped dial control for the VW and Audi sunroofs is a nice feature to have..........if only the rest of the car would not fall apart on you!

Because when you open the roof all the way w/ the side windows up it'll make a most annoying "helicopter - wop/wop/wop/wop" noise...and then you'd post here complaining about how the sunroof should have been designed not to make that annoying noise...

It's all in the manual.

Happy motoring.

haha, sometimes when i'm driving like 70-80 and have my sunroof open, i can't even close my windows because they start vibrating about 2/3rds of the way up and the safety thing kicks in and reopens the windows halfway.

Don't know if that's a good or bad thing. And i don't even use the sunroof as much as i thought i would. Too much direct sunlight during the freakish hot days of spring/summer in Texas.

Oh, and anyone notice the doors closing a lot louder/harder when the windows aren't closed? For what seems to be obvious reasons, but still makes me cringe sometimes when i feel like i slammed my door.
