electrical problem

i just got an amp, sub, and components installed. since the install, that same day, the entire car shut down on me while i was driving-just turned off, and turned right back on 5 seconds later. that happened only once. now what happens is if i hit a bump on the highway or almost anywhere actually, the front component speakers shut off for a second, or sometimes it's the head unit that shuts down. what the hell could be causing this? i don't think the lights are any dimmer or anything, if that means anything.[/quote]
If it happens when you hit a bump, i would think something is loose. Check the batery terminals for the car shutting off. Also check the connections behind the head unit to see about the speakers shutting off. Hope that helps.
who did them??? if its a self install i would triple check all connects stat. if not tke it back because it sounds like a grounding problem or something maybe shorting when your hitting a bump. that should never ever happen!!!!!. is your amp hot??? where it mounted??? i need more details because i use to do car install in college and for friends all the time so i know my stuff i could probably tell you your problem if you give me more info!!!!

my amp is mounted behind the back seat on the passenger side
it was all installed by a shop. i don't think it's getting too hot, but i have to double check that tomorrow. the battery terminals aren't loose-i've checked those and the plugs going into the amp aren't loose. i think i'm gonna bring it back to the place this weekend.

looks like a clean install from the picture. but check the ground close to the amp sometimes installers forget to sand properly aroung where its groundedand usually bolted
. heat can definitely be an issue on this install because its a hatch number and number 2 the car has sooo much glass
. judging the wattage your using your probably might want to invest in a cap. i know its just 400rms but its a good ideal to keep your charging system in the car healthy as possible. its sounds like that may be the culprit especially with an after market sub and amp combo.
what sound do you hear when it cuts off. describe that aspect in a little more detail

there isn't even really a sound when the thing cuts off. it just totally shuts off. the sound isn't slowly going off so u hear it getting messed up-it's on one second, then it's off, then it'll come back on again. i don't think i saw them sand the area where they grounded the amp. also, do i need to get a 1 farad cap or would i be ok with a 1/2 farad? would getting a yellow top battery make a difference or changing the wires to a larger gauge? i think they used 8gauge wires. if i went with some 4 gauge, would that help?
AAA hahahaha invest in a cap lol lol lol
sorry sorry for laughing soo much but a cap lol lol
1. its a kenwood its not putting out 800wrms lol
