papadoc254 06-21-2006, 04:48 PM thats nice mann, good work, maybe u should start doing them and selling them lol raWr215 06-22-2006, 12:03 PM by n e chance was the hole in the e46 projector around 2.5 inches? gonna use this (Tsx projectors): http://rawr215.googlepages.com/2.5to3.0flange.jpg Gonna get that range cover, cut a larger hole, JB weld that flange on it... cost 15 bucks each -_- maximus96 06-22-2006, 03:11 PM E46 single xenon might be 2.5, i know the bi-xenons are about 3" raWr215 06-23-2006, 01:52 PM cool thanx, i just ordered them, i will provide updates when i actually start doing the retro fit sitll no luck on buying hte headlight lamps, by first week of july if i don't have one, i will buy new ones! Sgtfluffy16 06-24-2006, 04:03 AM nice man i love the eye brows i wish i was able to do something like them myself im to scared to mess something up raWr215 06-26-2006, 12:44 PM another question! :blah: (i know :P im asking alot, but u don't mind :silly: ) so i noticed you aim your lights before putting back the lense cover on the headlight. so after retroing, you can't aim with the headlamp screws anymore? i also noticed that your mounting bracket didn't have a straight perfect hole, was that done on purpose to rotate the projector so it align correctly? If so that was a hella good idea and i am glad that i picked that up maximus96 06-26-2006, 03:39 PM once its aimed, there's no need to reaim...at least for my case. the headlight screw still works, it still moves it up and down. but may not be necessary depending on how you mount the projectors. cut the mounting holes in a way that allows you to rotate the projectors slightly so you can get it perfectly level once on the car. its the easiest way to make rotation adjustments. raWr215 06-26-2006, 03:40 PM that is what i thought, such a genius :P  raWr215 07-11-2006, 11:31 AM holy crap, that was a hard ___ headlamp to open! i was wondering how much did you cut off on the housing. im not quite sure how far to mount the projectors raWr215 07-11-2006, 11:33 AM btw, scrap those shrouds posted above... the picture they posted on their website was 'out-of-date' so i returned it for my money.... so im still shroud/bezel hunting. Looking at PVC stuff atm, i think i gotta primer and paint it black? not a fan of too much chrome :T here's what they look like http://www.omenco.com/imagefile/pro/1136964983d0312.jpg 5 bucks, using both ends 1 for each side. a perfect 2inch hole XD maximus96 07-11-2006, 03:04 PM pvc have a problem with heat. i read when hot enough the fume is toxic. i doubt the headlight will get that hot. it was a problem when people use pvc tubes inside the engine bay for ghetto home-made intakes. just something to keep in mind. i probably cut about 1" to 1.5" off the back of the reflector. i can't remember for sure now. raWr215 07-11-2006, 09:43 PM PVC is used in many application. vinyl used on windows, your credit card/id cards, and many more. the melting point is around 212 degrees Cel. so perhaps painting it would definitly make it safer. from the temperature testing that i grabbed from HID planet, i don't think it'll reach that hot. check out the temperature as these numbers were grabbed off a TSX projector :P http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15968 raWr215 07-12-2006, 09:44 PM okay max, i talked to a rep and they said: 'PVC products is used for draining, with that said, fluid(water) is 100 degrees C at boiling temp. If it's any higher it'll be a gas...' so i guess you win :T i won't use this so i gues i give up on shroud hunting.... im going to my dad's shop to CNC a custom bezel/shroud, perhaps the whole damn thing hint... will look similar to this! http://hidtech.com/images/02172.jpg oh did you JBweld your shroud to the projector? maximus96 07-13-2006, 06:17 PM if you have access to a machine shop then just go make your own. the e46 shrouds were plastic so i used automotive goop. jbweld would have been overkill but certainly will hold. raWr215 08-08-2006, 02:03 AM well, i got my first shroud made, not perfect, need some adjustments. It's made from aluminum so it's pretty light here they are http://rawr215.googlepages.com/customs1.jpg http://rawr215.googlepages.com/customs2.jpg http://rawr215.googlepages.com/customs3.jpg http://rawr215.googlepages.com/customs4.jpg http://rawr215.googlepages.com/customs5.jpg I will use some aluminum polish after i make the final one you can clearly see wht's wrong with it.... too small! and the center hole is a tad too big. I noticed that the low beam bezel area is not a perfect circle(round wise) I will most likely make a bigger circle, and chop off the top to fit it on. Once i get my shrould to a perfect size, i'll think about putting a pattern/design on it I noticed the e46 shroud leaves a tad bit gap. Is the gap big enough to see any jbweld/projector/bracket on your retrofit maximus? maximus96 08-08-2006, 02:11 AM aluminum polish only works for a while, the newly exposed aluminum will oxidize again and get dull quickly... raWr215 08-08-2006, 02:40 AM hmm, perhaps chrome paint? raWr215 08-12-2006, 07:40 PM hey max i redid the shrouds and i buffed it check it out man http://rawr215.googlepages.com/shroud2.jpg http://rawr215.googlepages.com/shroud4.jpg http://rawr215.googlepages.com/shroud5.jpg raWr215 08-15-2006, 01:19 PM I had a fun time yesturday rotating the projectors. I will go at them again sometimes this week after work. Gettin pretty close I also found that the driver side have just about no space for me to plug the ballast connector to the bulb unless i plug them in before i mount the lamp. The fuse box is in the way. So i will have to remove my bumper and headlamp if i ever was to replace my bulbs. maximus96 08-15-2006, 02:50 PM the shroud looks good. maybe you can make more and sell on hidplanet. when i had the tc, i had enough room to take the ballast connector on and off...but you won't need to replace your bulbs very often. raWr215 08-15-2006, 07:22 PM thanx, maybe i should make a few extra to sell on HID planet, not sure at the moment. I know that my left one doesnt' fit the right one. Probably the way i mounted the projectors. The shrouds were made so it's almost snugg fit to ensure no gaps were there. i can make them a bit smaller, but if it doesn't fit or doesn't allow vertical aiming, then the sides will have to be sanded down with some high powered air tools. I tried mocking the e46 shroud so If i can get my hands on a e46 shroud at a cheap price, i would make tons of them! I have 2 different bulbs atm so i would eventuallyhave to change them when i get some more money >_<, the bulbs are expensive :T Noodle 08-22-2006, 05:29 AM WoW. See if you can wire in LEDs to light up ur eyebrows as turn signals too.\ great idea! you will be making $$$ if u can :D my plan is to wire up a row of about 20-25 white leds and put them in the eyebrow. i think they're 16000 mcd leds, should be bright enough. apparently the black paint on the black piece is painted over a chrome surface. is there any way to remove the paint but leave the chrome? i have paint thinner at home but afraid it'll be too strong and eat thru the chrome as well. i'd like to see how it looks in chrome if possible before painting it aluminum silver like i had originally planned. any ideas are appreciated. About the Leds in the eyebrows. Can someone tell me what type of tubes and leds are being used? Better yet, if you know where to get them, I would be great appreciated for the information. http://www.mtdsign.com/images/off.jpg http://www.mtdsign.com/images/on.jpg thanks. raWr215 08-22-2006, 11:21 AM it looks like one of those clear window blind twisting stick (w.e u call it) using a dremel tool, he made grooves similar to LED angel eyes to refract light There is a write up on how to make your own custom LED angel eyes. http://www.geocities.com/jvxdriver/eagle_eyes.htm you can use that for reference to make the eyebrows maximus96 08-23-2006, 04:09 PM window blind acrylic rods. home depot sells a 3' long section for under $2. led should be superflux, i made the mistake of using 3mm leds because the small size and its not bright enough. Noodle 08-24-2006, 04:04 AM window blind acrylic rods. home depot sells a 3' long section for under $2. led should be superflux, i made the mistake of using 3mm leds because the small size and its not bright enough. Did you get the superflux from: http://www.lsdiodes.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4 And how did you put the superflux in the rod? did you just drill a hole and glued it in? Also, what is the output of the led? 4000 mcd or what? I am very interested. I am planning to incorporate this lighting to my aftermarket headlights, but with amber color. I know you're not a fan of it, but I like the look of it. thanks for the info  raWr215 08-24-2006, 11:56 AM Noodle, did you check out the link i provided? anywho, this guy did hid retroes as well. Im sure you probably have already explored the rest of his pages (if not u should, exteremly helpful) Noodle 08-24-2006, 12:50 PM Noodle, did you check out the link i provided? anywho, this guy did hid retroes as well. Im sure you probably have already explored the rest of his pages (if not u should, exteremly helpful) I did  thanks for the info. It was very helpful. But the link did not provided the answers for the questions that I had earlier, the 3mm was used in stead of superflux, That would work if I attatched them to the two ends of the rod, i guess. Or, I can have multiple superflux in the center of the rod. I guess I'll figure things out once I begin. thanks raWr215 08-24-2006, 01:39 PM angel eyes uses the concept of sending lights through fiber optics. so yes putting the LEDs on the ends would make the rod is correct if you put leds in the center, make sure do not make too deep of a hole. That will negativly impact your side LEDs, which are the 2 main LEDs that transmit light through the rod. The groves refracts the lights of the end LEDs. The center LEDs project lights forward, and not sideways (well there are some that goes sideways, but LEDs are directional, it will project light mostly to the direction you point it to) also if you are doing this, can you try putting on reflective 3m tape? Yanki01 09-01-2006, 02:17 AM man i cant wait to get my retrofit started! Plan on using s2k's! 9of2600 09-01-2006, 02:48 AM Im waiting on some more funds so I can get some TSX's. Im ready to start this! pasciontc 09-30-2006, 08:11 AM Amazing tutorial :) eLpReSiDeNtE 10-01-2006, 08:48 AM question when placing the headlite in the oven......does this only soften the glue that connects the housing to the rest of the light????.....the heat wouldnt damage anything else????....all i want to do is get rid of that damn orange side marker....i hate it DriveEuro 10-01-2006, 03:04 PM Yes, the whole point of baking it is just to make the glue soft so that you can seperate the two parts of the light. It shouldn't harm the lights or part of it at all. Just don't leave it in too long. ryukenden 11-16-2006, 03:33 AM im drooling... brownKIDDnate 12-12-2006, 08:25 PM clean up in my room.......... superblue 05-21-2007, 05:38 PM watching davedavetC 05-21-2007, 11:01 PM watching what?!?! this was completed SEPTEMBER 15th TWO THOUSAND AND FIVE! this thread was dead!!!!!!!!!! Noodle 06-18-2007, 05:59 PM They're all over ebay, search by "xenon shrouds". If they don't have them, somebody will sell them soon. They're widely available. Jdub86 06-18-2007, 07:23 PM Thats looks great man. screwTC 03-02-2008, 07:41 AM I have an 08 tc, would it be worth retrofiting tsx projectors. How are the projectors on the 08 TC. My cutoff is pretty clean on my 6000K setup. Im not entirely impressed with the actual light distribution on the road though. Here is a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gIRzqGkjdQ quality kind of crappy. Taken with a digital camera. CatalepsicFox 03-02-2008, 03:55 PM just mod the squirrel spotters and your set screwTC 03-02-2008, 08:33 PM How do you mod the squirrel spotters? I heard someyhing about bending them down inside the projector housing. jsingh 04-28-2008, 04:56 PM great....that's alot of work!!! LEDmod 09-23-2009, 07:45 AM If you have 08 projector, you can just swap out with just the TSX lens.. I've tried in on the 08 xB2 projector and fitment is pretty good.. There is a small play, but with little bit of fiddling, you can make a perfect fitment.. CatalepsicFox 09-23-2009, 07:47 AM I would doubt it. faux_ghost 09-26-2009, 06:01 PM this is one of my next projects Yanki01 09-26-2009, 08:53 PM this is one of my next projects take your time, measure twice...cut once. vega17 10-30-2009, 03:09 AM you did awesome DIY!!! i hope i can do it soon. thanks for great information!! demark12 03-28-2010, 02:44 AM awesome custom mod! nicepeta 09-08-2011, 10:29 AM What do you think of this projector? http://jlclighting.com/pix/peter/lights/club_lexus/dual%20angel%20eyes%20projector%202.JPG |
