I am building my own sub box and wanted to add a little plexi glass window so you can see the sub. the window will be about 8" x 8" at the most....might be doing a scion symbol or something else creative...

1) How thick should the plexi be .5" .75" ? does it matter?

2) When you attach it inside the box, do you treat it like wood and pre-drill holes, and use screws to attach or is there another better way?

Explanations/Pictures very much appreciated. Thanks guys!

.5 is more than enouh

 

i would use at least 1/2" if your box is made out of 3/4" mdf

 

I'm no expert on plexi but I've read several articles and seen other Websites or tv shows that discuss it and you want as thick a piece as possible. Plexi is just like any other material you use when building a box. The thinner it is the more it will flex and flex is not what you want.

 

How big is your sub? Personaly I have mixed reviews on this, I used to have a sealed box running 3 RF 10" and had a 10 x 10 window made out of plexi in the front, and it rattled like there was no tomorrow, no mater what we did to the damn thing we could not get it to stop, then again we did the same thing for my box on the xB and have no problem, and believe it or not the thickness is 1/4"

make a "Gasket" out of felt to go where the plexigalss mates to the box and that should cut down on the rattling alot.

 

LeBeastMan, that is a neat looking window...and love the carbon fiber door panels by the way. Who makes those?

Anyhoo...did you do anything special besides pre drill holes for the plexi glass? What did u use to cut the glass itself?

Plexiglass has the disadvantage of cracking, we used lexan for the windows, and the window in the box. It was cut out with a router.

We made everything in the car, the company is called Firmware Worx, and they will soon be available.
