View Full Version : BORLA WARNING!!!
Minsk99 03-19-2004, 12:28 AM Borla's web site is incorrect. Their single exhaust (part # 11741) is NOT a cat back. This incorrect information has also been sent out to their distributors and web retailers. I went on a 2 hour round trip in traffic to pick mine up today and when I got home and popped open the box the instructions read: "Thanks for purchasing a Borla Performance REAR SECTION Exhaust" Guess what? It was a rear section despite what their web site and the retailer's site indicated. I called Borla earlier this week and the guy I talked to for about ten minutes about the difference between the dual and single continually referred to the single as a cat back. Anyway, I just though I'd pass this on and save others the pain in the ___ of thinking they were getting great deal on a cat back and then finding out otherwise. I realize that this is a new part and that all this was due to a typo on the Borla inventory database, but its a hassel nonetheless. Borla has indicated that their web site will be changed by tomorrow mourning, but I'm assuming this incorrect info could be on retailer web sites for a while.
Munch 03-19-2004, 12:31 AM Damn that sucks. I'm glad I went with the Magnaflow
Djuan 03-19-2004, 12:50 AM ah, thats a bummer, good looking out on the heads up
its_ikon 03-19-2004, 12:51 AM as it holds, magnaflow is the only company with a true cat back.
bBted 03-19-2004, 12:55 AM  exhaust manufacturer dont even kno what cat-back is?
allblackxb 03-19-2004, 12:56 AM Quick questions. How big is the tip? Also if you do install it take pics. It sucks though that it's not a cat back, sorry to hear that.
Minsk99 03-19-2004, 01:30 AM The tip is oval shaped and is 3.5" high and 4" wide. I haven't decided if I'm going to send it back yet. I got a good deal on it (despite it being a rear section) at $252. Anyways, its either staying with this or going with the MagnaFlow. The place I got my Borla said they could get the MagnaFlow, but didn't have a price for me yet. What's a good deal on the cat back?

OK, on my Borla 2004 catalog it says exactly, "Borla Dual Exhaust Set-up Part#11741" Thats all it says and I posted that on my website. WHew I am safe. But I am sorry to hear that you got something wrong. My price is 300.00 plus tax and shipping.
HI. Just an FYI. I noticed that you have the Borla duel exhaust listed on your site at $300 (part # 11741). Borla screwed up. The info on their web site is wrong. Part #11741 is a single, axle back setup.
OOOOOOOHH,Crap!!! I thought it was for the cat back only not the dual exhaust, dam it. Now I have to change it on the site tomorrow and I will have to call borla and _____ at them.
Thanks for the heads up Minsk99 8)
Minsk99 03-19-2004, 03:58 AM Part 11741 is not a dual. It is a single and an axle back.
Minsk99 03-19-2004, 04:00 AM We must have been posting at the same time. Glad you got the info.
angrytoaster2004 03-19-2004, 04:07 AM I am also glad that I got my MagnaFlow cat back system( Thanks to Craig Lieberman)
Well, then if anyone wants a single axle back from borla, I can help you out at www.PrecisionMuffler.com for 300.00 :D
ScionRI 03-22-2004, 11:42 PM damn you all are in an exhausting situation
damn you all are in an exhausting situation
HAHA, I got it. Exhausting, because we were talkin about exhaust. I got it.
Minsk99 03-23-2004, 01:23 AM Hey ScionRI, you forgot your PUNctuation.
sml27 03-23-2004, 01:56 AM What makes a cat back so much better?
Radiodude 03-26-2004, 09:50 PM I just called the correct # for a borla dual exhaust is #140092... and THEY retail it for around $650. I was told to look somewhere else and I'll find it cheaper.
R0X0R 06-26-2004, 12:03 AM What makes a cat back so much better?
A cat-back replaces the pipe from the catalitic converter all the wayto the back where it comes out with BIGGER pipe, which helps the engine push out the exhaust easier. That way your engine can breathe easier and you can go faster!
Glad we got this info on the Borla not-cat-back. I was just about to order one because the price was so cheap. NOw we know why....
nolanneuner 06-26-2004, 10:44 AM where can you buy borla dual exhaust?
Canadatron 06-27-2004, 01:03 AM I have a Borla Dual Exhaust on my Echo..it's a cat back too. So there is a Borla Cat Back for the VVT-i engine. My car came with it as a dealer installed option for 800 dollars Canadian..which I figured was a good deal.

that's a photo of an Echo hatch with a Borla Cat back..(same one on my car)
chino5149 06-27-2004, 01:30 AM Canadatron,
Curious to how your getting 132hp out of your Echo? I know there're rated at 108 here. Do you guys have deferent spec engines than the U.S. models :?:
Thanks,
Chino
Canadatron 06-27-2004, 02:00 AM My car is the same 108HP engine as yours. But I have done a little "extra" work to the engine as well as having the CAI and the Cat Back exhaust on there. The engine was ported and polished. Prior to that I was getting 124 HP from the exhaust and the intake alone.
chino5149 06-27-2004, 04:14 AM Dam, Mind if we trade engines :?: LOL, those are impressive numbers for intake/exhaust and head work! Are u still using the stock engine management?
as it holds, magnaflow is the only company with a true cat back.
[i]Not true...... Thermal research has released a true catback exhaust. 60mm pipe (2-1/4) with a 90mm tip. It retails for $556. and some change, MSRP. i spoke with the rep fromThermal research and ordered 10 units this morning.
whoa!! Magnaflow's catback is like 400.00  And for 500.00 you can get a stylis manifold back system! :o Not a catback but a manifold back, from the header to the tip! 8)

Have you changed the headers at all?
I am interested in helping the performance of the xA I'm getting, but I am not into making it sound like a bumblebee. I would like it to remain quiet...
