I checked my engine one day when I drove less then 25 miles. When I opened the hood, the engine area felt very hot! Is this normal? Or is it because I have a new vehicle with less then 500 miles on it, is that it normal.?

Yes that is normal, if you would lift the hood of any other car it would be hot as well.

yeah its normal you can just turn the car on wait for a few mins let it sit some more and hear the fan come on. its because of the small engine bay and lack of space

Engines today and in the past use this mysterious thing called Internal Combustion. In internal combustion the engine burns gas, using FIRE. This makes things hot. If your thermostat doesnt say to hot, then it isnt to hot.

you know I find this rather amusing.

while I was road racinig at TWS in my scion, I would occasionally lift the hood and put my hand on the plastic engne cover to get a sense for how hot the engine was getting.

that thing barely got warm, I was amazed at how cool the engine was running.

Yeah, I owned a '97 Land Cruiser and the engine never got as nearly hot as my xB. I lightly touched the plastic top and almost 'simmered' my fingers. I guess the one guy is right regarding the small engine compartment can make the engine heat up fast. That makes sense. Or maybe it's the FL weather that adds to the 'hotness'. Don't know. Sometimes I think how in the world some mechanics can get working on your vehicle right away, but sometimes you wonder why they take so long to work on your vehicle too. I guess they have to wait for the engine to cool off before they dig their hands inside the engine compartment. :)
