Default What's that "klunk" sound?

...when I start to drive? It only happens after I start the car and pull away, not after a red light, for example. I searched the forums unsuccessfully. Thanks.

check your lug nuts. I had the lugs come loose on the front passenger side. the resulting "klunk" was the rotter slipping on the wheel studs. screwed up a couple of the wheel studs and messed with the brake rotter....

I learned the lug nut lesson driving a nearly new Ford Ranger. Heard a sort of rattle sound. Finally pulled the hub caps and a lug nut was completely off the stud and rolling around in the hub cap. Lug nuts need to be checked on new cars.

Mine's not a hard "klunk" but I have a similar issue.

See my posts in this thread:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...117&highlight=

It happens every time I pull out of my driveway or after being parked for a long time. In that thread I describe it as a "sproingg" but that's really not it.... but it's not a severe "klunk" either... something in between.

I have this same problem. It's like some sort of bo-ing, click, crunch or clack sound, right? That after you start your car up and go a couple of feet, the noise comes. I think I start noticing the noise around 600 or 700 miles, it may have been there all along but maybe I just didn't pay attention.

I actually went to my local dealership (Longo in Los Angeles) to get it checked out and they told me that it was the ABS brake activating. That everytime you start the car, that it'll happen 100% of the time and that it's normal for a lot of cars with ABS to do this, it just depends on how loud it was. I still had they check everything out but after 5 hours, they didn't find anything. Has anyone been told the same thing? It seems a lot of xAs have this issue so I'm just going to go with what the guy told me.

Never had that problem with my xA.

On the other had, my ex girlfriend had a 5th gen Prelude, and it made a noise that sounded like rubbing when she first started the car and went. At first I thought something was wrong with it, then figured out it was normal.

I have narrowed the sound down to like a spring snapping in place, right!

Weird... after checking out my total suspension, nothing rubs and nothing lose. I have yet to dismantle the disk brakes to see that, but I will try this first...disable the ABS.

I think there is a fuse for the abs, I will pull it and for a day or so and if no noise, than that's it. It's just noisy than most I think.

anyone know if this will work, please let me know. I know you can drive the car without the ABS ok cause when I did the coilovers they forgot to hook up one of the rear sensor and the ABS light came on and it still braked OK.

That's exactly the sound. And that's exactly when it started. And that's exactly WHEN it happens. If I drive then stop then go it doesn't come back. If I drive and turn off the car and turn it back on and go, it comes back.

Weird...

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo Right to the money.....

Well, if this is on most of the XA, then it could be the "nature of the beast".

I am going to the dealer and driving one on his lot to see if it happens.

what do you think?

Ahhh, mine does that sometimes but usually right after taking a corner. I also have the TRD springs.
