Default Speakers shut off every now and then after amp/sub? Help!

Alright...I just installed an amp and a sub in my xb.. so far it sounds great.. but there are times when the speakers seem to cut off but the cd player is still on. while thats happening, i could hear a really low hum. But then it begins working again if I turn the ignition off and on again . Does anyone know what I mightve done wrong? get at me..thanks.

your amp is going in ro protect mode or over heating and mosst amps now have thermal shut off thats why when you turn your car off and on it has reset . do like he said move it so it can get good air cirlation around the vents or get any amp fan lastly you amp maybe to small for your speakes which would make it over heat faster

A few things can be causing this..

Your impedence is lower than your amp can handle... Heat override... Loose ground...

What "speakers" are going out and how do you have them wired and what model is everything?

Lastly, how do you have your amp mounted? Note that you should only mount it with the heatsinks facing up... (Or usually flat on it's smooth side down) Heat flows up, and if you don't mounted with the heatsinks up you can build up heat...

1. All speakers shut off but the cd player is still on and playing

2. The amp is in the rear compartment in that styrofoam box thing. its 300w ive had
it since high school, cheap rampage type. haha. but it did its job and sounded nice.
now i dont know whats going on.

3. My bandpass is 300w as well by poineer.

4. What do you mean by my impedance might be less than what my amp could handle?
that sounds like something that could be wrong with it. is it because the stock deck is too weak for it?

5. It used to work well in my old car with a kenwood cd deck. even if I blasted it to the max it never did that.

So, are your speakers running off of your HU, or off your amp?

It would really work a lot better if we get some model numbers or at least a link to the amp... Also the subwoofers in this bandpass setup...

Anywho, I've sent you a PM, just post your answer back on here...
