Default Moscow trip pics (56k? - I used thumbnails)

As most of you know I recently spent a week in Moscow for work. I didn't get much chance to play tourist, but I did get a few pictures. I also got to commute for an hour each way on the Moscow subway with another American who did not speak Russian. We only took a wrong train once.

If I have any facts wrong, please let me know. we didn't have a guide, so were going by what little cyrillic we could decipher.

click the pics for larger views

can you read cyrillic? what restaurant is this? (answer at end of post)

how about this one?

outside red square

inside view of entrance to red square. they made the arched gates smaller so tanks can no longer drive through

chapel just inside red square

GUM (mall), inside red square

Lenin's tomb

me in front of St. Basil's

St. Basil's without me

St. Basil's at night

the Kremlin and monument, I think it is supposed to be part of the original wall

the Russian equivalent of tomb of the unknown soldier

cool building near red square

statue of Lenin across the street from the Bolshoi theater

the Bolshoi theater

cathedral of Christ the Saviour. It was destroyed by Stalin and recently rebuilt.

Moscow State University and typical Moscow weather at about 9:00 am

Moscow State University at night

Moscow State University at night with fog

12.5 hours on a plane from Moscow to Atlanta really sucks, but it's almost worth it. I don't get much time to see the sights when I travel, but I usually get a few free hours.

I like the red square. The building actually makes up the side of the square opposite the Kremlin and Lenin's tomb.

It's the warmest November in recorded history. When I got there Sunday it was sunny, then cloudy and gray until Saturday when I left.
