Hey,

I'm going to be 18 in a few months and I'll be getting my own insurance policy. I'm not going to be under my parent's since they will not add a car with the power that I would like under their policy. I'm a safe driver (clean record) and wondering how much I can expect to pay...

Cliff notes:
- Turning 18 soon
- Getting my own insurance because parent's don't want me having a quick car
- Wondering what to expect if I have a clean record $$$ wise

Thanks

its gonna be hella expensive not matter what. the only thing that will save u is your good grades. it will knock a decent amount off depending on ur company. but it will still be high.

Oh man, your going to get screwed. Sorry, there is no polite way to say the ways that your going to get it. Its almost gonna be like your a really hot girl walking into a mens prison in a very revealing bikini. Sure you will survive but it won't be pleasant.

The only things that might help you are if your a good student and if you add some security device like Lojak or Guidepoint Systems.

your age combined with a powerful car = high insurance rates. If your looking for full coverage at 100k/300k/100k kind of stuff than expect to pay 1100+ for 6 months.

:tap: Even more then that! Im 21, clean driving history, been licensed sense 16. I got onto my own policy about 4 months ago (Didnt have insurance for about 8 months & before theat was on parents policy) I currently pay almost $1,500 every 6 months for the cheapest full coverage, and thats on a xB! Once I hit my 6 month mark & looking at renewing my rates should drop by half (because it shows I can make my payments & that kind of garbage..) Good luck & what kind of car are you thinking of getting that is so powerfull your parents dont want you on there policy?

yup, hate to say it, but yeah, good luck with a low price. I bought my xB when i was 19 and still ended up paying $3200 a year for insurance, with discounts. Without them, I was looking at another $1000. I'd think twice about a fast car until your 21, so you can keep some $$$ in your pocket.

rofl, a renewal discount WILL NOT SAVE YOU 50%. You've got to be out of your mind.

That would mean no one would leave their insurance company EVER.

Also, you're paying incredibly waaaaay too much. I pay $700 every 6 months with a tC and i'm 22 w/ a clean driving history.

Shop around....Allstate wanted $1600 every 6 months from me and that's with a "spin-off" policy from my parent's policy...meaning I should have recieved a huge discount.

One week later after shopping around I managed to take $900 off of that price. Pretty strange eh?

it all depends on the company, your driving record, your age...etc. But I'm 23 and pay 1,200 every 6 months. It also depends on what coverages you get too. Sure you have to have full coverage to get your new car, but there are other things you can add on that will increase the cost also. But if your 18 there is no way to aviod high insurance. You should expect to pay atleast $300 a month.

Another major factor is where you live. I have a perfect record and so does the wife but we pay over $1200 every 6 months. That is for two cars, but it's still on the high side for our age and record, but it is because of where we live. Another thing to remember is that if you are making payments on the car then you will have to get full comprehensive coverage. If you own the car, then you could get much cheaper liability only coverage. This may differ depending on which state you live in though.
