Default Very Cold = No start?

i've had my tC for a little over a month now, with no problems whatsoever... until tonight. it started freezing rain, and i decided to move my car to a safer place in the driveway, as opposed to the cauldesac. Well, i went to start it.. it cranked but didn't start.

i thought "ok, it's probably just something to do with the rain." so i turned the key off, and back on, and it started.

has anyone come across this? is there something i should keep an eye on? does the tC have a cold start sensor that could be bad?

My tC does that every once in a while, usually when it's really cold, sometimes when I just slip when turning the key.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, but if it starts happening frequently I'd get it checked out.

Yeah on my next oil change im gonna have mine looked at. Mine took about 5 times to start. one time it started and died. then once it got running, it ran real rough for about 20 secs. The car also has been sitting for 3 days but the temps were only in the 25-30 degree range which isnt that cold for where i live.

I think there were a few post in the past (last winter) regarding weak starts. I had the same thing too. I often had to hold the key in crank position for a few additional seconds before the tC would start. Even then, it sounded a bit hesitant.

do you have a lot on your keychain? if so it can affect the key fob from transmitting to the transponder in the ignition..

if nothing but the key was inserted, then you might want to get your battery tested.. I've known of brand new batteries that were bad.. get a load test and see..

Engines not starting normaly in extremely cold weather is a prolblem for every car. You will have to crank the car a bit longer in that type of weather and it should start fine.

Is this a common issue with the tCs? All my cars Ive owned I never had a single problem starting in the cold.

im pretty sure its a common problem for all new cars. my friend has a 2004 Acura TL and it does the samething. If it happens on a $35k+ car, then its prob nothing wrong with our cars.

ALSO, the only gripe I have with the weak start is that it always does it when I have people in my car. Im like, "hey check out my Scion tC!" and they get in and it takes long time to start or just doesnt start at all the first time.

I think everyone know that car starts generally hesitate in very cold weather. I think past post regarding tC weak starts was claiming that the tC starter is weaker than other cars.

It was -4 today.

It started just fine.

Last year, when I lived in ND and it was -40 for a couple weeks, it started just fine. That was even with stock everything and a 2kW system that I didn't play quietly.

yeah but its not like it takes a few seconds more to crank. It will actually start then die a few times and then run real rough. My 98 tacoma NEVER did this no matter how cold.

I really dont drive my car other than 2 times a week so i think thats most of the problem. but at least its in a garage the whole time.

i had that problem 3 times when i first got my car. i haven't had a problem since.
first time - i think i didn't keep the key turned for long enough, it was cold outside
second time - same thing as first, but it was muggy and rainy
third time - same as first and second, but it was nice weather and i had barely any fuel....

i dunno
