Help!!! xB title mistakes?
I bought my 2006 xB in Oct. It is financed through toyota. We agreed with the dealer to tranfer my tags from my old Celica to the xB. I had a cosigner. Two weeks later the dealer calls saying I had to get new tags because they cant tranfer because the tags are in my name and the xB is in both our names. The cosigner was never supposed to be on the title. So they say they will fix it. It is now december and this whole time driving on tags registered to an 01 Celica. Today I get the memorandum title. Yeah they took his name off it but made it so The car was sold to me at a $0 cost with 256 miles on it. My xB had 2 when I got it. The mileage on the xB was wil 4,800 when this title is dated. The worst part is the title now says USED. I am a little ticked off. This looks really bad because when i go to sell the car the title might look fraudelent because it had 256 miles on it when I got it used even though I am the original owner. Any dealers out the know how to fix this or anyone have this same problem?
One more thing that could mess up is your insurance - with my vehicle insurance they cover a NEW car with LESS THAN 150 MILES on it when purchased differently if it is totaled in the first year: It is replaced with a brand new vehicle and they cover any "gap" between what you owe and what the new one costs.
If the vehicle is used or if it's "new" with over 150 miles on it when purchased they will NOT provide that coverage.
Your dealer messed up when they originally went for the title, your dealer should fix the mess they made. If that is not possible, they need to cover any value that was lost by you because of their screw-up. At the very least they need to provide you with a detailed letter explaining that they made the errors and that the vehicle was sold to you new with 2 miles on the odometer.
If they refuse to do anything, contact your state attorney general office, consumer protection folks...

Yeah, My friend said it may mess with my insurance too. Thisis the second time I have dealt with this dealership and they have been good to me. This to me was a mistake, we all make them. Well, it needs to be fixed right. I am not happy with their solution. I dont want to start anything but I DO want this fixed right. Any other suggestions??? I am going to contact them tomorrow and see what they say about this.
Some of this depends on the state you're titling it in. More than likely though, there is nothing that can be done. You can't re-do DMV work for the most part. You can only change what exists. The only way the dealer could change the existing title was to "sell" it to you alone. Its unfortunate, but also the only way to get your co-signer off the title. Was it really that important to get the co-x off the title? did the co-x sign the title application? If so, why?
It wasn't that important to me but he absolutely did not want to be on the title. He has signed for 3 other loans also for me just to obtain better financing. He was never on any of those titles. Also like you said I figured that yes I probably am not going to be able to change this. Not sure if he signed a title application. The dealer though knew from the start he did not want to be on it.
Ok update, Dealer told me im SCREWED because the cosighner made the mistake of signing paperwork for the title. It was made clear to them when I bought this he was not to be on the title. They did it anyways. I called the state and they said it cannot be changed whatsoever. Well, So I am a second owner on a car I bought brand new and has a title with dealer falsified mileage. Might call the state attorney general over this because the dealer just is not willing to help.
Call the BBB, let the delership know that you have contacted the BBB. Give them the case fil....this may motivate the ealership, may not. But ti will go on their record.
This place moves mountains, no business wants negative hits from the bbb

The only other option to fix it like I want it is for them to buy it back.
Especially since the box has almost 6,000 miles on it now and was wrecked last weekend. They could throw in some nice rims and I would forget about it. Another
