Yellow headlight bulbs
anyone know of yellow or gold lowbeam headlight bulbs that have a higher heat rating than 2500K? really anything that will at least be as good as stock. where could i find em and are they legal?
The "color temperature" is the color of the light the bulb produces.
Normal 'tungstun' lighting (regular incandescent bulbs) are generally 3200-3400 Kelvin, daylight is in the 6500 range, yellow bulbs are in the 2500 range - they HAVE to be or they wouldn't be yellow...
Beyond that, the AMOUNT of light put out has little to nothing to do with it's color temp - there are very powerful 'yellow' sources just as there are very dim 'blue' ones. It is how much power is being turned into light, and how efficiently.
The effectiveness of the light output is also related to the sensitivity of the human eye to different colors. It takes a lot more light of some colors to have equal visibility with light of other colors...
Keep in mind, that in modern headlight assemblies the parts around the bulb have a LOT of plastic components. If one gets a light source in there that pulls too much power and produces too much heat, things start to melt and burn, so there is a rational limit.
Also keep in mind that the wiring has to handle the power draw, and it is only designed to handle stock amounts of current, plus a bit more for safety. Same with switches, connectors, and fuses.
(In my state, while you may not get stopped for yellow headlights, they are not legal...)
