Default Stock speakers.. is it me or are they not that great?

The front pair seems to be better than the back pair. i think i have already blown one of the back speakers because i am now hearing a rattle.
Does anyone have suggestions on what i should buy for replacement speakers?

The rear speakers are attenuated quite a bit from the factory... and the stockers aren't that great.....

What kind of budget are you looking at for new speakers?? are you wanting only fronts or fronts and rears too??

Scion drivers typically turn up the volume to drown out the rattle... you just get more.

Replacing the front with a good pair of components is a pretty dang good idea with our decks... I don't really turn up the rears that much and push sound through the front mostly with my components that are in....

Shop around and you can get some at decent prices... Mine are a little pricey, but their's lots of options out there.

i dont know why everyone hates the stocks so badly. compared to A LOT of cars out there, these are godly. i was gonna replace my stocks with a complete aftermarket set, but then i decided, wait, why spend all that money, when i can just get the scion sub, though not the best, to complete it? and i dont regret it at all. it sounds awesome.

not to say you'll regret buying aftermarkets, but just saying, there is WAY too much hate on stock speakers. and its more of a bandwagon thing than anything else.

^^ I'd agree that for STOCK, they're pretty good....but if you've ever had a stereo system before, the stocks won't satisfy you.....

Not true. I was competeing in IASCA for 3 years and these stock speakers sound pretty damn good to most people. Add a good x-over, amp, and sub and you will be amazed what they will do. I'll prove it to Tim next time he see's my car now that I put my system back in. ;)

I don't disagree that there are better out there, I am just saying that they aren't bad or horrible in any way. There is a lot worse out there.

i think it's the head unit that makes the speakers suck. after i replaced it, the stock speakers sounded like a whole different set.

Yeah, they're ok.....

They improved one step when I went to an aftermarket deck
But, the ID Chameleon CSX64's I replaced them with are SOOOO much richer, especially with the highs... the stock tweeter without a good crossover just doesn't cut it....

Apex may have something going with adding an amp and crossover to richen it up... but the aftermarket still has them beat by a good amount IMHO.

the sound has really improved since i have installed the new HU but one of the rear ones have blown now! i have no problems with the front speakers but i have always thought the back speakers need improvement.

Do you guys know how many watts the stock speakers can maintain without blowing? I'm thinking about doing crossovers and amping it up, but I don't know what the rms is...Thanks guys

^^^ It's not watts so much - blown speakers usually come from an UNDERPOWERED amp!
That said, I don't know the numbers - I would use the stock output as a guideline, but I'm sure someone knows the part #s and can tell you more.

The stock speakers are ok, but cannot compare with good aftermarket comps and some power.

SCI_TC_GUY said it perfectly. If you have or have had a nice system, the stocker is just not going to cut it. It sounded pretty good at first, way better than the premium setup in my Sequoia, but after about a week, it just did not cut it. A 9.4/eDi 6000s (installed) and a 9.2x/11kv2s (2 preordered!) will fix that!

BTW, '06 HU w/LOC sounds pretty darn good! Just needed more power!
