Dealership Problems with Sunroof
Hey guys...I'm usually just a 'view-only' guy on here...
But anyway, I have an '06 tC manual w/ SAB and iPod flint mica....12,000 miles since august.
The sunroof is a piece of garbage. Ever since I got the car it has rattled when you go on bumpy roads WHEN OPEN, but if you'd close it a little bit more the sounds would go away.
>Go to the dealer, and they claim to repair loose headliner screws.
Then one day, it starts rattling a lot no matter what position it is in.
>Go to the dealer, claim there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, but re-screwed and checked every part of sunroof. No problem, they say.
Take the car home...Guess what: sunroof still rattles bad. Couple days later, it starts rattling even worse. Now it even rattles when in tilt position...THEN TODAY, it starts rattling when it isn't even opened up!!! It's ridiculous! My sunroof is going to fly off of the car and hit someone or something, and Toyota refuses to fix it. I'm going to take it to a different dealership, and see what they say. Otherwise, it's getting to the point where I'm considering the lemon law to force them to buy the car back.
It really bothers me though, because I really like this car. Two friends and I all got cars the same time last year, and we all drive a lot. One buys a VW Jetta TDI, one buys a Hyundai Elantra, and I buy my car... VW craps out with 15,000 miles on it and he dumps it. My Scion has had to go to the dealership 9 times in 12,000 miles, and the Hyundai with 21,000 miles on it and the lowest price has had nothing go wrong........UGH It is going to be very frustrating to have to buy my way into a different car because I got a bad one. One thing is for sure, if this problem doesn't have a solution I won't buy Toyotas anymore...which is going to add up for them over time considering I am college educated and young. Lots of lost opportunities for car sales due to their inability to fix their defective products.

Agreed, try another dealer. As long as the roof is solid though and not going to come off, remember, it is just a rattle. Mine rattles every once in a while and I accept it. It is just part of owning a great car like the tC.
i had alot of rattling with my 06........i had an apt. to take it in for the issue, anyways to make the story short, i installed the greddy strut tower bar and then drove it...........the noises stopped. I think its the sheet metal flexing and such, i won't say that is the issue, but my sunroof rattled, creaked and made noises, especially going around corners.......may be its unrelated but i thought i would share.
Phone number in my signature.
If you have to get them to send out a Toyota service representative to make it stop rattling, so be it.
I just hit 19,000 miles, and my sunroof makes noise going over speed bumps or ruts, but that's about it. It also makes zero noise when closed.
You may want to check your dome light, above the rear-view mirror, because those bulbs can tend to rattle a little.
Also, pull down on both of the "Oh ****" handles firmly. They're spring-loaded, and the spring can make noise if it's not sitting right.
