Default bazooka just needs a little something

I got a tC and it had the subwoofer installed already. I know it is not the best thing but it gets the job done... sometimes.

I was just wondering if there was any way to upgrade it a bit. Maybe put a different amp in or some.

I have read about closing the port off and making it a sealed box. I am going to try that. I also played with the settings on the radio and the gain control on the enclosure itself.

I guess I am just asking if anyone has any tips on making it a little better without replacing everything. Any little bit will help out.

ps. I know this isn't the best subwoofer but it is what I got.

Thanks for the help.

Not really much you can do... I stuffed a towel in the port, but I'm going to be sealing it better here soon. But aside from that and adjusting the gain (mine is about 1/4 turn past the white dot)... it is what it is. I got mine for a decent price, that's the only reason I got it. Installed myself.

If I had to pay full price for it, I would have got something more custom.

i can barely hear any sound coming from my bazooka sub... i know people say its not that great but..... should it be booming even a little.... its on and making a little bit of noise but definitely not anything i would expect from a 10" sub, i mean the front speakers have better bass. is there something wrong or is that the way it is?

Pop the cover off the sub and turn the gain up. There's a little white mark on it that shows the "recommended" setting. I go a little higher than that.

If it isn't helping, try setting your balance totally to one side and see if there's any bass.... then repeat for the balance on the other side. They may not have hooked it up to both channels like the manual says they should do.

^^Is the bass supposed to be louder if you turn the balance all the way to one side? Or if it is does that mean something is wrong.

Where you should be worried is if you hear it from one side by not the other.

I don't think that could be as much of an issue with the OEM one though b/c it's all just a single plug on each end. One plug into the head unit and one plug into the speaker. There aren't any left and right channels to connect as long as the wiring harness is OK.

I played with the gain control and no major change, you could tell the difference from when it was all the way down to when it was all the way up but there was still barely anything coming out, i could put my ear directly on the speaker with volume max and everything pushed to the back speakers and still hardly anything. i'm going to take it in to the dealer and see what they say. Thanks for your help guys.

Make sure you change the SSP on the car as well. Hear or Feel (obviously feel is more sub). Also change the car type setting as well (hold the ssp button, I think) and change it to xA or xB.

The tC on Normal is really flat and you cant hear crap. I thought my 15" I put in was screwed up until I realized that removing the battery reset the stock HU.

^ I recommend xB/Feel for the SSP settings. Much better than tC.

wow changing it to xB made it sound a lot better, i'm still going to take it in because working properly or not... i'm ____ed. I'm going to complain to my dealer and he cant do anything about it i'm going to the regional manager and if they cant do anything about it i'm going to start writing letters to toyota directly, for as much money as that thing costs it should sound somewhat decent. i'll let you guys know how it turns out. thanks again for the help
