Default Brake problems (I think)

Has anyone noticed a problem where the brakes make a knocking sound as you come to a stop. Recently, whenever I slow down from 15 or 20 mph to a complete stop with the clutch pushed in or in neutral, there is a knocking sound that is coming from the brake pads perhaps. I've taken it to the dealership and haven't had any success since they say that they can't identify the problem since they cannot reproduce the sound. The car still brakes fine and does not pull to any side, and it makes this noise only right before I come to a complete stop. For example, I usually downshift and keep the car in gear until I come to about 10 or 15mph and then press the clutch and brake. Anyone have a similar experience and had any luck getting it fixed???

P.S.

Before this problem arose, I had two instances in which I had to come to a screeching halt because of some crazy drivers. However, I don't think extreme braking in two instances would cause a problem in the brakes. Just wanted to list it even though it may be a coincidence.

that knocking is most likely the ABS engaging. i assume you notice it when you make more of a "sudden" stop or a "sudden" turning stop. it is normal. i've experienced often (not proud about that).

i'll tell you what is even scarier, when someone has a car with abs and they have no idea what it is.

Word! Before I knew what it was a was scared to drive it again. One thing that also kicks the abs on is stoping on a bumpy road.

Yeah, that's very true. People who experience ABS for the first time might try to pump the brakes, which makes things worse if they are in an emergency.

Yes, it could be the ABS system, but I would describe it more like something like a very coarse buzz at the brake pedal. I also noticed that different car brands have very different feeling ABS systems at the pedal.

i kinda have the same problem but when i start brakin it makes a whistling noise.. it might just be my brakes but i've only had the car for like 10 months already.. i don't abuse my car either! lol it whistles while i'm braking but when i'm coming to a complete stop it stops whistling.. i think i'm goin to get it checked out next week...

Be aware that the induction system on the tC normally whistles when you deccelerate from speed. Sounds like a turbine sound revving down. I haven't heard any whistling sounds related to braking on my 05 tC otherwise, so maybe this is what you are hearing.
