View Full Version : $35 for hatch release good idea? TongMan 05-21-2006, 10:33 PM I recently got the Viper 771 xv installed and I was offered to get the hatch release installed also for $35. I don't think I'll need it. What do you guys think? jwaggz82 05-21-2006, 10:46 PM i would. but thats just me ProshopXB 05-21-2006, 10:47 PM $35 dollars is a steal for installation, do it. Nice to be able to just pop the hatch to put stuff in, well atleast i like it, but im lazy. TongMan 05-21-2006, 10:51 PM cool, then i'll take it in tomorrow (monday) to get it done. Harmonic_tC 05-22-2006, 02:28 AM I personally wouldnt do it. I hooked it up on mine but in order for it to work, yo have to be there to open it up. Its not like a truck and it will open up when its released. It basically hits the little rubber button for you. I NEVER use mine ddsboi 05-22-2006, 02:30 AM 35 bux is worth a shot i guess kileil 05-22-2006, 07:42 AM it wouldnt do anything. You know how you press unlock 2x to unlock the hatch? It should work the same with your aftermarket alarm. engifineer 05-22-2006, 02:24 PM It would serve zero purpose. Waste of money IMO. You just pick up on it anyway, cause your hand presses the rubber button. I cant see any reason to have a release. Not to mention, I am pretty sure the if you press the button but do not pick up on the hatch, it will just re-latch when the button is released, so you would still have to open it. Harmonic_tC 05-22-2006, 03:38 PM ^^^exactly what i was trying to say, haha NoLimitzBuilt 05-22-2006, 07:02 PM there is 0 reasons to get this done. No matter what you have to pick the hatch up. It will not lift itself up. So you have to be back there anyway so why not just grab the button? really all you would have to do is find the wire that pops it. Since it is electric pop. so they are charging you $35 to run a wire back and a relay. engifineer 05-22-2006, 07:12 PM A lot of people complained cause there wasnt a hatch release inside the car as well (like a trunk release button) :P Still cant see why that would serve any purpose whatsoever either. jwaggz82 05-22-2006, 09:42 PM I would like to have a button that would pop the trunk. It seems like something easy that they "could have done". NoLimitzBuilt 05-22-2006, 09:55 PM I guess I am kinda lost here. You have to walk back to open the hatch right? So since you do not have to put a key in there to open it, and all you have to do is reach under the hatch and grab the handle. If you had to put a key in there and turn it I could see a hatch release. but since you do not and you have to "manually" open the hatch why have it? jwaggz82 05-22-2006, 10:16 PM dunno - most of the time when i go into my trunk both my hands are full. If they arent it seems like im putting things either on the pass seat or throwing it in the back. ...but thats just me. TongMan 05-22-2006, 11:36 PM thats true the hatch won't pop up, but i think it will if you install a stronger strut for the hatch. It just needs some force pushing up for the hatch to open. Am I right? jwaggz82 05-22-2006, 11:37 PM sure - you can swap them out. they make ones that you tap and they go right up. Dont think all lifts are as crummy as the tc's. kileil 05-23-2006, 04:11 AM Now if you want it to be really sweet, replace one of the struts with a linear actuator with the same throw. Wire it to motorize after the final trunk catch has been released and watch it go. MMmmm http://www.racointernational.com/imagesde/ez_03.jpg crayonBOX 05-23-2006, 04:36 AM what you could do in addition to trunk release is add a "door popper" http://www.12vp.com/car_door_poppers_ss_opti.jpg (http://www.thehoffmangroup.com:16080/Autoloc/search.lasso?search=door+popper) click on the image to see the listings on autoloc.com - you can buy em from anywhere, but i trust autoloc most def. so it will lift the hatch (hopefully, they have lbs. ratings) then it'll be open... on the other hand, the handle for the trunk hatch IS the button to open it.. you'll save another .0032 seconds opening the hatch using the release.. but then again, i want to do this to my xB and tC as well.. just for kicks (plus, wiring it requires NOTHING extra, no extra parts besides some wire and a wire tap... maybe a relay depending on the alarm output...dont let em screw u) |
