$35 for hatch release good idea?
I recently got the Viper 771 xv installed and I was offered to get the hatch release installed also for $35. I don't think I'll need it. What do you guys think?
I personally wouldnt do it. I hooked it up on mine but in order for it to work, yo have to be there to open it up. Its not like a truck and it will open up when its released. It basically hits the little rubber button for you.
I NEVER use mine
I NEVER use mine
It would serve zero purpose. Waste of money IMO. You just pick up on it anyway, cause your hand presses the rubber button. I cant see any reason to have a release. Not to mention, I am pretty sure the if you press the button but do not pick up on the hatch, it will just re-latch when the button is released, so you would still have to open it.

there is 0 reasons to get this done. No matter what you have to pick the hatch up. It will not lift itself up. So you have to be back there anyway so why not just grab the button? really all you would have to do is find the wire that pops it. Since it is electric pop. so they are charging you $35 to run a wire back and a relay.
A lot of people complained cause there wasnt a hatch release inside the car as well (like a trunk release button)
Still cant see why that would serve any purpose whatsoever either.

I guess I am kinda lost here. You have to walk back to open the hatch right? So since you do not have to put a key in there to open it, and all you have to do is reach under the hatch and grab the handle. If you had to put a key in there and turn it I could see a hatch release. but since you do not and you have to "manually" open the hatch why have it?
dunno - most of the time when i go into my trunk both my hands are full. If they arent it seems like im putting things either on the pass seat or throwing it in the back. ...but thats just me.
Now if you want it to be really sweet, replace one of the struts with a linear actuator with the same throw. Wire it to motorize after the final trunk catch has been released and watch it go. MMmmm

what you could do in addition to trunk release is add a "door popper"

click on the image to see the listings on autoloc.com - you can buy em from anywhere, but i trust autoloc most def.
so it will lift the hatch (hopefully, they have lbs. ratings) then it'll be open...
on the other hand, the handle for the trunk hatch IS the button to open it.. you'll save another .0032 seconds opening the hatch using the release.. but then again, i want to do this to my xB and tC as well.. just for kicks (plus, wiring it requires NOTHING extra, no extra parts besides some wire and a wire tap... maybe a relay depending on the alarm output...dont let em screw u)
